Barbaree and Tomlinson Win by One
Philip Barbaree and Taylor Tomlinson grabbed first place honors at the Florida Junior Tour’s (FJT) event at the Longboat Key Club, in Longboat Key, March 24-25.
Philip Barbaree, of Shreveport, LA, posted a tournament total of four-under par 140 to earn his first career FJT title. Barbaree fired a first round of three-under par 69 to hold a share of the lead heading into the final round of play. In the final round, Barbaree played another solid round of golf carding a one-under par round of 71, to win the event by one stroke. Daniel Whelan, of Coral Springs, finished in second place after rounds of 69-72 for a tournament total of three-under par 141. Ryoto Furuya, of Agania, Guam, finished in third place with a tournament total of one-under par 143
In the Girls 13-15 Division, Taylor Tomlinson, of Gainesville, overcame a six stroke deficit, to capture her second career FJT title. Tomlinson posted a first round of eight-over par 80 to trail the first round leader by six strokes heading into the final round. In the final round Tomlinson fired an impressive round of even par 72, to capture the title by one stroke with a tournament total of 152. Latanna Stone, of Valrico, finished in second place after rounds of 74-79 for a tournament total of 153. Emma Bradley, of Naples, finished alone in third place with a tournament total of 155.
