FJT at Amelia National GC (16-18)

Amelia National Golf Club, in Amelia Island, provided the 16-18 division juniors perfect conditions all weekend allowing the players to open the tournament with great scores. Brandon Mancheno, of Jacksonville, lit up the boys’ division with a round one score of 4-under par, 68. Brandon made an impressive six birdies to take the early lead by three strokes over Logan Membrino. Membrino, of Ponte Vedra Beach, posted a 1-under par 71 for his opening round. Three players tied for third including, Prescott Butler, Cole Castro, and Jackson Suber with even par 72. Mancheno carded a FJT win at Belleair Country Club in January of this year and Membrino was crowned Champion of the Tour Championship that ended the 2015 FJT season in December. Sunday’s final round would be an exciting battle for first place!

Brandon Mancheno, the 2015 Junior Player of the Year, captured his second FJT victory of 2016 by one stroke. Mancheno had four birdies in his final round, two on the front-nine and two on the back-nine, for a 74, tournament total 2-under par 142. Membrino did not let Mancheno have much room for error with a consistent second round 72 for a tournament total 143. Membrino displayed impressive golf with an eagle on the par five 15th hole, followed by birdies on holes 16 and 18! Despite his exceptional finish, Membrino came up one stroke short of first. Spencer Slayden and Joe Parrini tied for third with a tournament total of 148. Parrini carded the low round of day two with a 1-under par, 71.

Julia Towne and Ailsa Clark fired rounds of four 4-over par 76, to tie for first place after Saturday’s round. Clark, from Navarre and Towne, of Eustis, were both chasing their first FJT victory! At the completion of round one there were six girls within two strokes of the lead. Morgan Baxendale and Amelia Root were tied for third at 5-over par 77, and Lauren Miller and Katie James were tied for fifth place with rounds of 78.

The final round in the girls’ division came down to a race between Lauren Miller, of Niceville, and Morgan Baxendale, of Windermere. Baxendale birdied the 1st and 17th hole for a second round 77 and tournament total, 154. Miller carded birdies on holes seven and nine, the two par 5's on the front-nine, for a final round 76, and a tie for first with Baxendale. Towne remained close to Baxendale and Miller in the final round until she struggled on number eight, her 17th hole, and finished with a 79, tournament total 155. Towne captured third place, one stroke from first and Amelia Root finished in fourth place (77-80—157). Baxendale and Miller headed to the first playoff hole where Miller excitingly chipped in from 20 yards for a birdie  and the win!

Just a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean, Amelia National Golf Club is a great par 72, 7,100+ Tom Fazio designed golf course hidden in the northeastern corner of Florida. The European style clubhouse is a site to see and the golf course is sure to be a delightful challenge. That was proven with last years field that had only one player under par for the 36 hole championship.

Format

  • 36 holes of individual stroke play
  • 84 total players (typically 66 boys and 18 girls)
  • 16-18 age division (age calculated by the last day of the tournament)

Divisions and Approximate Yardages

  • Boys 16-18 Age Division - 6,900 yards (gross only)
  • Girls 16-18 Age Division - 6,000 yards (gross only)

How Entries are Accepted

  • Players with an unused FJT exemption will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis (if submitted before the entry deadline).
  • Players without an FJT exemption - all other entries are held until the entry closing date.  Shortly after the closing date, a computer-generated random draw is performed to determine which entries are accepted, and the order of the alternates. All players are notified of their status after the random draw is conducted,
  • An alternates list will be posted to the FJT website under "Tee Times & Player Information".
  • Entries submitted after the entry deadline will be added to the bottom of the alternates list or used to fill any openings in the field.

How to Enter

Entries must be submitted through the FSGA website. To enter, each player must have an account on this website (free to setup), and a current FJT Junior Membership ($40). Click "Enter" above in the Tournament Links box.

Entry Fee

The entry fee of $95 (for GHIN handicap members) or $115 (non-GHIN handicap members) includes tournament rounds, range balls prior to tournament rounds, crystal trophies for the top three finishers, and a tee gift. 

To receive the GHIN handicap price, the player, or one of the player's parents must have an active GHIN handicap at a club in Florida. The seven digit GHIN number must be included and active when the entry is submitted. Click on the Handicaps tab above in the main menu for more information.

Late Fee:  A late fee of $10 will be applied to entries received after the entry deadline. The entry fee and late fee will only be charged if the player gets accepted into the tournament field.

11:30 AM - 1:27 PM - Round one tee times off the 1st and 10th tees

Sunday, March 6th
8:00 AM - 9:57 AM - Final round tee times off the 1st and 10th tees
Approximately 3:00 PM - Awards presentation

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the tournament on a space-available basis. Times times are only available after 12:00 noon the weekend prior.  The price for a practice round is $30.00 + tax. Please call 904-652-0660 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course, not filling divots, and not repairing ball marks are unacceptable and may cause removal from the tournament without a refund.

Players are not allowed to drive golf carts (must be 18 years old to drive a cart).

  • Winner receives 8 performance stars
  • Top five finishers receive 4 performance stars

Girls

  • Winner receives 8 performance stars
  • Top three finishers receive 4 performance stars
