Jacobs & Yarmitzky Win South Championship
Rob Maddox and Christian McCarter recorded a final round 67 to win the Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North Championship at Sugarloaf Mountain in Minneola as Scott Jacobs and David Yarmitzky captured the South Championship at The Sanctuary Golf Club in Sanibel Island on June 5-6.
Rob Maddox and Christian McCarter won the North Championship posting a tournament total of 138. The duo from Lynn Haven, carded a first round 71 to trail the first round leaders by three strokes heading into the final round. In the final round, Maddox and McCarter fired a five-under par 67 to be tied with Thad Hudgens, of Longwood, and Steve Riviere, New Smyrna Beach. The teams would go to a sudden death playoff with Maddox and McCarter making an eagle on the third playoff hole to capture the title. With this victory Maddox and McCarter punched their ticket to the 61st Four-Ball Championship to be played at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast on July 10-11.
In the South Championship, Scott Jacobs, of Aventura, and David Yarmitzky, of Sunrise, went wire-to-wire to capture the title by four strokes. Jacobs and Yarmitzky shot back to back five-under par 67’s to win the championship with a tournament total of ten-under par 134. This victory also earned the duo an exemption into the 61st Four-Ball Championship. Three teams finished tied for second place with a tournament total of six-under par 138. Ben Finley, of Plantation, and Mike Stiber, of Pembroke Pines, along with the team from Fort Myers, Dave Marshman and Rokki Rogan, and the team of Frank Strafaci, of Davie, and Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale.
The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championships each consist of 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing his own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole. The field is flighted after 18 holes. To be eligible, players must be 25 years of age or older.
