Winter Series - Buckhorn Springs G & CC

VALRICO, Fla. – Three players captured season-ending victories, as the 2022-23 Winter Series season wrapped up on Tuesday at Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country. Ryan Prokay took home the win the Mid-Amateur Division, while Miles McConnell was victorious in the Senior Division and Richard Kerper captured the Super-Senior title.
With the Winter Series season coming to a close, Prokay, Lloyd Fisher and Kevin Macy were named the 2022-23 Winter Series Points Champions. Prokay and Macy both earn the honor for the first time, being named the Mid-Amateur and Senior Points Champions, respectively. Fisher garners the honor for the first time since the 2013-14 season, being named the Super-Senior Points Champion.

Mid-Amateur
Prokay used a 6-under 138 to earn the win the Mid-Amateur Division. He opened the tournament with a 4-under 68, finishing the day with six birdies, to take a four-shot lead over the field after 18 holes.
Prokay got off to a strong start in the final round, with a bogey-free front side, carding an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole. The Bradenton resident finished the day with an even-par back nine and secured the six-shot victory with a final-round 70.
His first-round 68 was the low round for the tournament. This victory marks the fifth Winter Series of the year for Prokay. Drew Downs took second place at even-par 144 after two rounds of 72, while Kevin Dutkowsky finished third at 1-over 145.
Senior
McConnell captured the 10-shot win in the Senior Division, posting a 7-under 137 for the week. The Tampa native carded a 3-under 69 in Monday’s first round to take a three-shot lead over the field.
Starting on the fourth hole, McConnell added back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth. He finished the day with a bogey-free second nine, with four birdies. His final-round 68 gave him the victory in the Senior division, his second win of the season.
Riviere finished the week with a final-round 76 to take home a share of second-place finish at 4-over 148. Brian King used the low round in the Senior Division (2-under 70) to finish in a tie for second with Riviere.
Super-Senior
Kerper posted a 1-under 143 to pick up the win in the Super-Senior Division, securing the six-shot victory with rounds of 70-73. The Oldsmar resident used a first-round 70, with four birdies, to take a four-shot lead over the field after 18 holes. He used a final-round 73 to secure the victory. Michael Bell
Michael Bell used rounds of 76-73 to take home second place at 5-over 149, while Bill Moore finished with rounds of 74-75—149 to finish third.

Eligibility
- Entries are open to male amateur golfers who are age 25 or older as of March 7, 2023
- Entrant must be an Adult or Foundation Member of the FSGA
- Entrant must have an active Florida GHIN Handicap and have a current handicap index of 10.0 or lower.
Age Divisions
There are three age divisions; Mid-Amateur (25-54), Senior (55-64) and Super-Senior (65 & above). Each player must compete in the age division commensurate with their age as of March 7, 2023. Competitors may not elect to play in a different age division or from a different tee than designated.
- Mid-Amateur (25-54) plays approximately 6,700 yards
- Senior (55-64) plays approximately 6,400 yards
- Super-Senior (65 & above) approximately 6,100 yards
**After the first round, each age division may be flighted based on the number of competitors and/or the range of scores.
Entry Fees & Prizes
- $180
- Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.
- Age-group Champions at each event will receive a commemorative award. Gift certificates (totaling approximately $30 per-player in the field) will be awarded to the top finishers in each age group.

Practice Rounds & Cost
Practice rounds are available one week prior to the event on a space available basis and are restricted to after 12:00 PM on weekends. To arrange your practice round please call the club at 813-689-7766. The cost of a practice round is $45 plus tax.
