VERO BEACH, Fla. – Ty Capps and Tyler Gulliksen captured the Two-Man Shoot-Out on Sunday at Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club. The team finished with a par on the first playoff hole to secure the win.

The championship began on Saturday with teams competing in modified alternate shot. Three teams finished the first round in a tie for first at 7-under 63, including Capps and Gulliksen who carding six birdies and an eagle.

Also tied for first were the teams of William Mallon/Bobby Bird and Colin Morris/ Will Davenport. Morris and Davenport posted a bogey-free first round with seven birdies, while Mallon and Bird finished the morning with nine birdies and two bogeys.

The teams competed in the scramble portion on Saturday afternoon. Capps and Gulliksen shot a second-round 63 to take a shore of the 36-hole lead with Davenport and Morris at 16-under 126. Both sides finished the afternoon bogey free to two shots ahead of the field heading into the final round. Ryan Prokay and Brad Knight had the low round in the afternoon, firing a 11-under 61 with nine birdies and an eagle.

The championship finished with a Four-Ball on Sunday. Capps and Gulliksen got off to a strong start in the final round, posting a 3-under front side to sit one shot head of Davenport and Morris with nine to play. On the final nine, Davenport and Morris birdied three-straight on Nos. 15-17 to take the outright leader but a bogey on the final hole sent the team to a playoff with Capps and Gulliksen.

Both teams finished the championship with a 20-under 194. Capps and Gulliksen finished with par on the first playoff hole to capture the win, while Davenport and Morris ended the weekend with a runner-up finish.

Two teams finished the weekend in a tie for third at 17-under 197. Rhett Pooley and Tiger Godwin used a final-round 69 to finish in a tie for third, while Prokay and Knight finished the championship with a final-round 68 to earn a share of the third.

The Two-Man Shoot-Out is one of the FSGA's most casual and enjoyable Championships! It is also a unique Championship combining modified alternate shot, two-man scramble and four-ball formats. Each round is considered a separate competition with prizes being awarded for each, as well as an overall winner for the Championship.

Tournament Summary

Format:  54 holes of two-man gross stroke play
                - 18 holes of Modified Alternate Shot
                - 18 holes of Scramble
                - 18 holes of Four-Ball (Two-Man Best-Ball)

Eligibility FSGA member at least 21 years of age

Handicap:  Florida GHIN, 10.0 or less

Entry Fees: $420 per team ($210 per player)

  • 54 holes of stroke play

  • Two-man team, gross stroke play (no handicaps)
  • Each round is a different form of play
    • Round 1 - Harbor - Modified Alternate Shot

    • Round 3 - River - Four-Ball

Eligibility

  • Male amateur golfers age 21 or older as of the first day of the Championship
  • Both entrants are required to be an adult member of the FSGA
  • Active Florida GHIN, with index of 10.0 or lower

Schedule of Events

Saturday, May 6th

  • Morning Round - 8:00 AM shotgun on the Harbor - Modified Alternate Shot (18 holes) where each player hits a tee shot, then the team selects a ball to be played into the hole and alternates playing that ball into the hole
  • Lunch - Included between rounds
  • Afternoon Round - 1:30 PM shotgun on the River - Two-Man Scramble

SundayMay 7th

  • Final Round - 8:00 AM shotgun on the River - Four-Ball (Two-Man Best-Ball)
  • Playoff - For overall team Champion only.  The format for the playoff is a sudden death play-off alternating with each form of play used for one hole (Modified Alternate-Shot, Scramble & Four-Ball). It is the team's responsibility to be present for any playoff.

Entry Priority

Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt. Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list. Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available.

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately 6,700-6,900 yards.

Rounds & Prizes

  • Each round of the Shoot-Out is treated as a separate competition and gift certificates are awarded for each round.
  • There is an overall prize for the team Champion, but the emphasis and the majority of gift certificates are paid out on the basis of each individual round.

Flights

After 36 holes, the number of flights will be based on the number of teams and the range of scores.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the Championship and after 12:00 PM the weekend prior on a space available basis.  The price for a practice round is $35 plus tax and includes cart and range balls prior to the round. Please call 772-778-9200 to schedule your practice round. You may call within two weeks of the date of your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Defending Champions

Devin Hernandez and John Valenty captured the Two-Man Shoot-Out on Sunday at Lakewood National Golf Club, posting an 20-under 196 for the championship. The team birdied two of their final four holes to secure the win. Click here for previous year's results.
