Voted "No.1" Golf Course in Southwest Florida by Florida Golf News
University Park
has been recognized as the "Number 1 golf course in Southwest Florida" and
"Number 7 in the top 100 golf courses in the state" by Florida Golf News, who
recently polled the state's golfing enthusiasts. voting was based on golf course
design, conditions, playability, staff, amenities, and general enjoyment.
Links Magazine
"The setting is so picturesque. The course looks as if it has been in
place forever. Everywhere you turn at University Park, the look is one you may
want to make last for years...It's the details...for instance, cart paths are
not visible from the tee boxes, which are laid out in such a way that the only
markers you see are the ones you are playing from. The cart paths are edged and
so are the bunkers. There are no homes visible from the sprawling,
European-style clubhouse, only dramatic vistas."
Ron Garl, University Park Country Club Golf Course Designer
"It's not just that the concept of the course ties into the community,
but the personality of the course extends to the golf staff. The place has a
warm and friendly feeling to it. It's a challenging course, but it's not hard.
We don't want anyone getting beat up out there. And it's not artificial or
man-made. It's the kind of place you want to play, belong and live."
University Park will host the 2005 US Open Local Qualifier and the 2005 Florida State Golf Association Match Play Championship.
