Men's Net Championship

Grand Cypress Golf Club - New Course and North/South Course - Orlando, FL

September 29-30, 2018

For the sixth consecutive year Grand Cypress Golf Club was in fantastic condition for the Men’s Net Championship competitors. With two beautiful days for golf, the players posted impressive scores on both the New Course and North/South courses.

The Under 50 division saw Andy Weber, of Lake Mary, take home his first Net Championship victory since winning the Men's Net Four-Ball in 2016. Weber posted a round one two under-par 70 positioning himself only two strokes behind first round leader Josh Benson. Benson dropped to a third place finish after a round two 82, while Weber played steady and carded an even-par 72 on Sunday for a two under-par total 142. Andy finished the event four strokes clear of second place finisher, Daniel Riley, of Boynton Beach.

The 50-64 division experienced a come from behind win from Michael Volcan, of Juno Beach. Volcan, who played in the NHL in the 1980s, was two strokes behind Allen Burkhart who posted a round one three-under par 69. Michael carded the second lowest round of the day in his division on Sunday which placed him in a tie for first place with opening round leader Burkhart at a two over-par total, 146. Michael's final round of three over-par, 75 was two strokes better than Allen's final round score and this earned him his first FSGA Championship victory! Rounding out the top three with rounds of 72-79—149 was FSGA staff member, Gary Donat.

David Norka, of Winter Haven, achieved a wire-to-wire, consistent win with back to back under-par rounds of 70 and 71. After a third place finish in last year's Championship, Norka earned the win this year by four strokes with a 141 (-3) total. Norka finished three strokes ahead of William Hallett, Bill Seiler, and Gregory Takacs. Rounding out the top 5 was Bruce Moskovciak who posted rounds of 74-72.

~ New Course & North/South ~

The New Course is Jack Nicklaus’ tribute and homage to the famed Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. This Scottish links masterpiece is complete with double greens, stone bridges and walls, gorse mounds, burms and pot bunkers as deep as 12 feet. The North-South combination, marked by sharply ledged fairways, tall shaggy mounds and plateau greens perched above water or sand, is a demanding, target-style test.
