Stone Joins Thompson as Youngest Winner
Terrence Zhang and Latanna Stone prevailed through cold and extremely windy conditions, to capture their respective division titles at the Florida Junior Tour’s (FJT) Viera East Golf Club, in Viera, February 11-12.
Terrence Zhang, of Orlando, carded an impressive final round of even par 72 to capture his first career FJT title. Zhang would post a first round of two-over par 74 to trail the first round leader by two strokes heading into the final round. In the final round, Zhang carded a front nine of one-over par 37, and finished strong with a one-under par 35, for his final round of 72, to win by two strokes. Samuel Uhland, of Jacksonville, finished alone in second place posting a tournament total of four-over par 148. Luis Gagne, of Orlando, finished in third place with a tournament total of 149.
In the Girls 13-15 Division, Latanna Stone, of Valrico, at only 10 years of age, posted a tournament total of two-over par 146 to capture the title and join Lexi Thompson (LPGA winner) as the youngest winner of a FJT event. In the first round, Stone fired the low round of the tournament with a two-under par 70, to take a three stroke lead heading into the final round. Stone continued her stellar play in the final round with a four-over par 76, to capture her first career FJT title by eight strokes. With this victory, Stone tied a FJT tour record for the youngest player to win an event. Michelle Yan, of Hong Kong, China, finished in second place after rounds of 73-81. Athena Yang, of Winter Haven, finished in third place with a tournament total of 157.
