Aylwin Wins Public Links

Kevin Aylwin fired a three-round tournament total of 13-under par 203 to win the Florida State Public Links Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port Saint Lucie on June 11-13.

Kevin Aylwin, of New Smyrna Beach, went wire-to-wire to win the 2010 Public Links Championship with a tournament total 13-under par 203. Aylwin posted scores of 66-68-69 to win the Championship by two strokes. Aylwin played steady down the stretch to hold off a late charging Defending Champion, Tommy Mou, of Bradenton. This is Aylwin’s third Amateur Public Links Championship in the last four years. Kevin currently attends and plays for the University of North Florida golf team which finished the season ranked 21st in the nation. By winning the Public Links Championship Aylwin will be awarded an exemption to play in the 93rd State Amateur Championship at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando June 24-27.

Tommy Mou, of Bradenton, finished in second place with a tournament total of 11-under par 205. Mou’s final round included a one-under par 35 on the front nine and a five-under par 31 on his back nine, which included five birdies in a row to jump up the leaderboard. David Arnold, of Ocala, Alexander Medinis, from Fort Myers, and Don Bell, of Port Orange all finished tied for third place with a tournament total seven-under par 209.

The Public Links Championship is open to bona fide public course players who are not members of a private club and also do not have a handicap index any higher than 6.4. Competitors played 18 holes of stroke play on each of the three days with the field flighted after 36 holes.

The Wanamaker Course at PGA Golf Club is the first golf course named in honor of Rodman Wanamaker, who in 1916, inspired the birth of The PGA of America. Designed by Tom Fazio, this classic Florida layout is set against a backdrop of wetlands, palm trees and palmettos. Considered one of Florida's most beautiful courses, the Wanamaker Course has hosted the PGA Cup and the Callaway Golf Senior PGA National Professional Championship.

ELIGIBILITY

Competitors must be bona fide public course players, since January 1, 2010 and have not held privileges at any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public, or privileges at any private club maintaining its own course. A bona fide public course player may hold incidental privileges at a course not open to the public when such privileges are provided by (1) an educational institution at which he/she attends, or (2) a federal armed service at which he/she is a member, or (3) an industry by which he/she is employed. The FSGA follows USGA guidelines for the Public Links Championship except for the handicap rule. See the website for guidelines. Players must be a member of the FSGA.

ENTRY FEE

$225 ($235 - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap).

HANDICAPS

No higher than 6.4.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Fifty-four holes of individual stroke play. The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. There will be a hole by hole play-off immediately following play in event of a tie for the Champion. It is the player's responsibility to be present for any playoff.

COURSE SET- UP

The golf course will be set-up approximately 6800 - 6900 yards.

TEE TIMES

All rounds will begin at 7:30 AM off the 1st and 10th tees.

PRACTICE ROUNDS

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship.  Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM on the weekend.  The price for your practice round is $35.00 + tax.  Please call (800) 800-GOLF to arrange your practice round.  The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

CARTS

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

DEFENDING CHAMPION

Tommy Mou, from Bradenton, fired a 66-68-70--204 to win the title at Grande Pines Golf Club.

SPECTATORS AND CADDIES

Spectators and caddies are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  If a player employs a caddie, the caddie MUST walk and the player's clubs must remain on the golf cart.

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.
