Bird and Gould captured the North Championship, Nicklaus and Veneziano win South Championship in playoff

Bobby Bird and Chuck Gould captured the Mid-Senior Four-Ball North Championship at Sugar Mill Country Club, in New Smyrna Beach.  In the South Championship, Gary Nicklaus and Jon Veneziano prevailed in a playoff at The Wanderers Club, in Wellington.

The duo from Vero Beach, Bobby Bird and Chuck Gould went wire-to-wire to capture the championship by three strokes.  In the first round the pair fired an impressive round of 11-under par 61 to hold a five stroke lead heading into the final round of play.  In the final round, Bird and Gould played another solid round of golf, posting a four-under par round of 68 for a tournament total of 15-under par 129.  The Defending Champions, Rob Maddox, of Lynn Haven, and Mike Riley, from Panama City, finished alone in second place with a tournament total of 12-under par 132.

In the South Championship, Gary Nicklaus, of Jupiter, and Jon Veneziano, of Mount Dora, held off the Defending Champions in a playoff to capture the title.  After posting rounds of 64-62, Nicklaus and Veneziano would find themselves tied with the Defending Champions, Stephen Anderson, of Hobe Sound, and RJ Nakashian, of Palm Beach Gardens, after the pair posted a final round of 11-under par 61.  The playoff would go five holes where Nicklaus would make birdie for the title.

The Mid-Senior Four-Ball Championships are each 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing their own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole. The field is flighted after 18 holes. To be eligible, players must be 40 years of age or older and members of the FSGA.

The Wanderers Club is located in the heart of Palm Beach County’s premier Equestrian Community. This challenging and unique Jacobsen Hardy designed golf course plays over 7,000 yards from the tips. The golf course’s immaculate conditioning is enhanced by Florida’s natural landscape, a course where golfers can find peace and quiet along with birdies and pars.

ELIGIBILITY

Must be age 40 or older as of September 10, 2011, and both entrants must be members of the FSGA.

ENTRY FEE

$310 ($330 - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap).

CHAMPIONSHIP

36 holes of four-ball stroke play.  The lowest team score for 36 holes will be the Champion. If necessary, there will be a hole by hole play-off to determine the champion. It is the player's responsibility to be present for any play-off.

52 teams; 104 players

COURSE SET- UP

The golf course will be set-up approximately 6600-6800 yards.

FLIGHTS

After 18 holes. The number of flights will be based on the number of teams and/or the range of scores.

TEE TIMES

Round one and two tee times will begin at 8:00 AM off the 1st and 10th tees.

PRACTICE ROUNDS

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship.  Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM on the weekend.  The price for a practice round is $30.00 + tax.  Please call (561) 795-3510 to arrange your practice round.  The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

CARTS

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

RJ Nakashian and Stephen Anderson won the South title at Sara Bay Country Club posting scores of 63-64--127.

SCORECARDS

Only one of the partners per team need sign the score card and each score to count must be individually identifiable.  See Rule 31-3.

SPECTATORS AND CADDIES

Spectators and caddies are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  If a player employs a caddie, the caddie MUST walk and the player's clubs must remain on the golf cart.

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.
