Summer Mixed Team Championship

Saddlebrook Resort - Saddlebrook Course, Wesley Chapel, FL

August 5-6, 2023

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Saddlebrook Resort served as host for the 2023 Summer Mixed Championship. Thirty-six teams, teed it up at the start of the weekend, and after 36-holes, the team of Capps/Capps came out on top to bring home the victory.

Championship Division

Saddlebrook Resort proved to be a tough challenge on Day one of the Summer Mixed Team Championship. At the end of day's play, Ty Capps and Chrissie Capps would open up their championship with a 1-over par, 71. This was enough only for a one shot lead over three teams at 2-over par. The teams of Bronwyne Bruwer / Jeff Sellis, Courtney Johnson / Jake Johnson and Sarah Matin / Matthew Matin would begin the final round with a chance to challenge the leaders for the title. With five teams within two shots of the lead, Sunday was certain to be a battle.

Round two proved to be just as difficult as round one. With five straight pars to open the round, team Capps was able to card a birdie on their sixth hole. This was the turning point in their round and the momentum they needed to eventually tack on three more birdies and one lone bogey for the day. At the conclusion of the day, team Capps turned in a final round 3-under par, 67, which tied the low round of the championship.

The teams of Johnson/Johnson, and Bruwer/Sellis hung in close all day. Both teams played consistant golf shooting each a round of 1-over par, 71 and tie for second place finish.

Tying the low round of the day and championship was the team of Keane/Carter. Both players contributed throughout the day with two bridies from Keane and three birdies from Cater. Their final round 3-under par, 67 vaulted them up the leaderbaord five places and in a tie for second place.

Forward Division

The Forward Division would also see a close battle after day one. The pair of Martin Jones and Brittany Jones would tie the low round of the day with a 1-over par, 71. The duo of David Tassell and Kim Tassell would sit one shot back at 2-over par with 18 holes to play. Rounding out the top three was Melissa Stockton and Alexander Hall at 5-over par.

Round two saw a back-and-forth battle throughout the day. Tassell/Tassell and Jone/Jones traded pars on each of thier first two holes of the day. On the par 3 twelth hole, team Tassell poured in a birdie and claimed a tie for the lead.  After the conclusion of the second round, a final round 74 gave Tassell/Tassell a one shot victory and also a tie for the low round of the day.

Jones/Jones fell just one shot back of a tie for first after a clsing round 76. They sat four ahead of the thrid place finishing team of Stickton/Hall who carded a final round 76.
