Girls 16-18 Division

Nestled in the mangroves of Key Biscayne, Crandon Park Golf Club's quiet scenery may have been misleading during this weekend's Florida Junior Tour Event. In a field with strong contenders, there were no red figures during the play of the first round. It was Lillian Berry and Jue Wen who would go into Sunday's final round as co-leaders. Each fired rounds of (+3) 75 to lead Handa Liu, who finished her first round with 3-straight birdies, by one stroke.

Drama was in full supply on Sunday as both Jue Wen and Handa Liu battled it out in the final pairing. After exchanging the lead a couple times through 13 holes, it was clear that the champion was going to come from those two. Third place finisher, Hina Matsui, climbed her way back into contention with a final round of 76 but could not catch Liu and Wen. Handa Liu would go onto fire a round of 75 which would force a playoff with Jue Wen as she posted a final round of 76. Wen did not give up on the first playoff hole as she chipped in for par after hitting her tee shot into a hazard. Liu was unable to convert her par which left Jue Wen victorious.

Boys 16-18 Division

Crandon Park Golf Club did not pick favorites as it showed its teeth to the boys as well. However, three players managed to fire red numbers - Yuze Zhang (-1) 71, Shutaro Umeuchi (-1) 71, and Bryce Walker (-2) 70. All three players used steady play to get them into the final pairing on Sunday, but they did not want to look back as 4 players stood at (E) or (+1) waiting for them to falter.

The final round was more of the same; Crandon Park did not offer up many low numbers. However, we did see two rounds under-par, both coming from our first and second place finishers. Atsuya Oishi and Will Davis knew they had some catching up to do on Sunday to get back into contention, and they did just that. Davis rolled in a 12-foot eagle putt on his last hole to finish his weekend with scores of 73-71 (E) to finish in second place. Our champion, Atsuya Oishi, used a solid assortment of 5 birdies and 3 bogies to fire a final round of 70 (-2), bringing his tournament total to 143 (-1).
