LPGA International - Daytona Beach

March 1-2, 2014

Wang and Baxendale Win Three in a Row

On June 30th - July 2nd, LPGA International will play host to the Girls' Junior Championship. This weekend the Florida Junior Tour arrived on the grounds with a full field of 84 junior golfers in the 13-15 age division.

The wind made its presence felt during round one, making the Jones course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach play a bit longer. The boys played the course at 6,612 yards, par 72. The first round finished with three names in red numbers. Jonathon Cachon, of Weston and Anton Serafini, of Lake Mary both finished with one-under par 71's. They would trail round one leader Robin Wang, of Lake Mary by three shots after his four-under par 68. In the girls' division Latanna Stone, of Ruskin posted a three-over par 75 to trail Morgan Baxendale, of Windermere who carded a 74 on the 5,793 yard layout for girls, by one shot.

The wind would calm down for round two, but the first round leaders would stay hot. Anton Serafini, who finished round one in a tie for second place, added a one-over par 73 for a two day total of 71-73, an even par 144 giving him a solo third finish. Sachin Kumar, of Port Saint Lucie made a run at the title with a second round 69 and a tournament total 143. Unfortunately for him, Robin Wang ate his Wheaties on Sunday morning and followed his first round 68 with a second round 69 for a tournament total 137 and a six shot victory. Over the course of the weekend, Wang made an impressive eight birdies and an eagle. This is Wang's first win in 2014 and his third in a row dating back to the fall of 2013.

In the final round for the girls, Ramya Meenakshisundaram, of Jacksonville shot a very steady 76-76-152 for a third place finish. Lauren Waidner, of Fleming Island made birdies on 4 & 6 but came up short. She improved by five shots from her first round score for a two round total 78-73-151 and a second place finish. None of the girls could catch Morgan Baxendale. Morgan added another 1st place FJT trophy to her collection. She birdied 3 & 14 today en-route to a one-over par 73 for a tournament total 74-73-147. The four shot victory gave Morgan her third win in 2014. She has won each event she has played in this year.

Tournament Rounds are being played on the Jones Course. Since 1994, this signature Rees Jones golf course is a favorite of the tour players. It is a traditional links-style 7,088 yard design. You'll enjoy the strategic mounding, numerous expanses of sand bunkers, natural marsh areas, beautiful lakes and undulating greens. While extremely playable for all skill levels, the ingenious and inventive player is rewarded with multiple options on nearly every shot
