Jim Callender

On Friday, November 18, 2005, the Florida State Golf Association inducted Jim Callender into its prestigious Hall of Fame as a part of the first five to receive such an honor. The ceremony was held at Palma Ceia Country Club in Tampa in conjunction with the Annual Dinner.

Jim Callender, a Silver Star recipient, retired from the naval service after serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. After earning his PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Florida, he became involved with the Florida State Golf Association as a rules official and made many appearances at FSGA and USGA Championships, including five US Opens, three Amateurs, and three Senior Opens. He also served on the FSGA Board of Directors and the USGA Sectional Affairs Committee for a number of years.  He held the highest USGA certification as a rules official and worked in various state and national tournaments.  In 2004, he was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for this selfless and untiring devotion to the FSGA, which contributed to the success of the organization over his time of service.
