The Importance of Setting Goals

Setting goals is an effective means of finding success in many areas of your life, but it is especially true when it comes to improving your golf game, navigating the recruiting process, and accomplishing great things once you get to college!

Examples of areas to use goal setting are:

·        Communicating with coaches – set a goal to send at least 30 introduction emails to different coaches by the end of the month or sending a weekly text to any coaches that have been in contact with you.

·        Researching schools – set a goal of researching 3-5 schools and their golf programs per week.  Look at the team statistics for the top three players, how many juniors and seniors are on the roster, majors offered, facilities, size of the campus, etc. Make a pros and cons list for any teams that interest you.

·        Social Media – if you do not already have an account on Instagram, YouTube, etc. create one today! Make a goal of updating your golf specific accounts at least once a week with a swing video, picture from a tournament or from a recent practice session, a quote that resonates with you.  Follow and like your favorite team accounts as well!

·        Statistics – keep track of as many different stats anytime you tee it up and keep score, especially when you play in a tournament. The more specific you get, the better you can organize and plan your practices to make weaknesses your strengths!  Choose an area of your game that you need to improve such as your make rate from 3 feet, then set clear practice objectives or stepping stones that will help you achieve that goal in the long run.
