Tommy Murray, 26, of Orange Park, earned Player-of-the-Year honors with 1435 overall points. Murray’s fantastic year was capped off by winning The Florida Open Championship. Murray finished tied for 17th at the Amateur Championship, finished in second place at the Public Links Championship, and was a quarterfinalist at the Amateur Match Play Championship. Murray was also selected to compete in the Florida Cup and was a key contributor in the North’s team victory. In addition to his great FSGA season, Murray qualified for the United States Public Links Championship and represented Florida at the USGA State Team Championship at the Country Club of St. Albans in St. Louis, Missouri.
Steve Earsley, 62, of Hobe Sound, is the 2009 Senior Player-of-the-Year recipient earning 780 overall points on the year. Earsley’s year was highlighted by winning the Senior Amateur Championship at Black Diamond Ranch by three shots and finishing tied for third at the Senior Four-Ball Championship. Earsley also qualified for the United States Senior Amateur Championship held at Beverly County Club in Chicago, Illinois.
Kevin Phelan, 19, from Saint Augustine, is the 2009 Junior Player-of-the-Year. He followed his third place finish at the State Amateur Championship by advancing to the semi-finals in the Amateur Match Play Championship. Phelan also made the cut and finished tied for 34th at The Florida Open Championship. Phelan is currently a freshman and a member of the University of North Florida golf team.
