Willie Takes Florida Open Golf With 279, Cooper Second

Willie Turnesa, USN, captured the 1943 edition of the Florida Open Links tournament today with a five-under-par 72-hole aggregate of 279.
Pete Cooper, Gainesville star, blasted par on his opening round with a 68, three under, and returned in the afternoon to post an amazing 67 to take the runner-up position with 281. Turnesa, member of the famous golfing family and former national amateur champion, who had a 138 at the halfway mark after yesterday's play, had a 72 and a 69 today.
Earl Christiansen, Miami's golfing policeman, who was one stroke behind Turnesa at the midway mark, went three over par on the first eighteen with a 74 and got a 71 on the final round to finish third with 284.
