JUPITER, Fla. – After posting the low round yesterday, Colin Kresl made his way to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday at the 102nd Amateur Championship. Kresl carded a 1-under 71 at The Loxahatchee Club to move to 5-under 211 for the championship.
“It’s not so much about where you are in the tournament, but putting together another good round to keep it going,” Kresl said.
The University of Central Florida golfer heads into the final round seeking his first Florida State Golf Association Championship victory.
Kresl began the day with a bogey on the second hole, but quickly turned it around birding two of the three next holes. He finished off the front nine with a birdie to head to the back at 2-under for the day.
The Lakeland native hit his approach shot over the green on the 18th hole and was left with a 115-foot putt. He rolled it to two feet and tapped in for par to finish the day with a two-stroke lead.
After the third round, three players sit two shots back at 3-under 213: Marc Dull, Ben Reichert and Rhett Pooley.
Pooley made the most of moving day on Saturday. The Lake Wales native used the low round of the day to jump up 17 spots on the leaderboard. Pooley got off to a hot start, birding three of the four first holes and finished the front nine with a 34.
He birdied three straight on the back nine and finished the day at 4-under 68.
“I tried to keep it in front of me today. Tried to play safe and hit to the middle of the greens,” Pooley said.
Reichert posted a 1-under 71 to move into a tie for second. The University of Alabama-Birmingham golfer started the day with a birdie, but then carded back-to back-bogeys on the third and fourth. He rebounded well, playing the rest of the round at even-par or better.
Dull, who began the day with a one-shot lead, struggled on the front nine with three bogeys and one double bogey. He finished with a 3-over 75, dropping back one spot.
