With the inaugural Florida Women's and Senior Women's Open a month away, players are getting ready to put their skills to the test at the Reunion Resort in Orlando. However, about one hundred miles away from the site, one individual has been working diligently for months. Duncan McClellan, a local of St. Petersburg, is responsible for the exquisite glass-blown trophies that will be presented to the champions in the women's and senior women's division on August 13th.
The Florida Women's Open will be a 54-hole stroke play event beginning August 11th and concluding on August 13th. Both professional and amateur golfers were welcome to participate in this inaugural event, with professionals being eligible to the $50,000 purse. The event will feature the legends and stars of today playing with the faces of the future. With a strong and decorated field, the Florida Women's Open will be an exciting weekend with excellent golf from all ages.
To make this event even more special, the trophies that the two champions will receive will be original pieces of art by local artist Duncan McClellan. His studio, the Duncan McClellan Gallery, can be found in the heart of the Warehouse District of Saint Petersburg, and is home to jaw-dropping pieces of art.
McClellan's fascination with glass began during a visit to a glass factory in West Virginia. So, naturally, when he was given the opportunity to learn how to blow glass in 1987, he said yes. Following his dream, he went on to study at the New York Experimental Glass Workshop and the ARS Studio in the home of glass blowing, Murano, Italy.
Currently, he uses bold stylized icons depicting natural relationships that evoke emotional responses. The trophies for the Florida Women's Open mimic McClellan's unique stylistic features. Keeping congruent with the Florida atmosphere, McClellan sculpted these trophies using light colors, the sunny yellow and sky blue as well as the sunset palette of purple, blue, and light orange. The top of the trophies showcase the typical Florida palm tree leaves with multiple birds flying linearly underneath. The lower third of the trophies are filled with exquisitely detailed shrubs that provide balance to the art.
It is an honor to have had Duncan McClellan create this unique trophy for the inaugural Florida Women's Open. Some of McClellan's other works can be found in collections throughout the world both private and public. His works are sought out by private collectors as well as museums for display in their permanent collection. His gallery is open to the public and contains not only his own work, but work by other artists. The message behind his art relates to family, personal growth, and the spiritual connections between each of us as souls.
