Welcome Letter
Dear Participant,
Welcome to the 74th Florida Open. Pine Tree Golf Club is excited to host Florida’s premier event that includes the best players in the state. Pine Tree Golf Club is a traditional, private club established in 1961. The Founding Members purchased a large tract of dairy land and engaged the prominent course architect Dick Wilson to design the course. Pine Tree is considered one of Dick Wilson’s finest courses and has been ranked in the nation’s Top 100 and Florida’s top 5.
Built on Florida’s flatland's, Dick Wilson used well positioned bunkers and expert design concepts to create a strategic aerial game. A player uses all of his clubs for varying lengths and placement throughout the design. Host to the 1978 U.S. Senior Amateur Pine Tree still stands a true test of golf, and named “the best flat course in the country” – Ben Hogan. Although the course is said to lay flat the raised, angled greens are well defended by surrounding bunkers; the course comprises of 128 bunkers. The brilliance is brought out on Pine Tree’s famous par three 13th hole.
The club has been home to numerous past and current members whom have been elected into the LPGA, PGA or World Golf Hall of Fame: Sam Snead, Tommy Armour, Micky Wright, Louise Suggs, Joanne Carner, Beth Daniel, Meg Mallon, and Karrie Webb, as well as 2019 U.S. Open Champion Gary Woodland that combine for 50 Major Championship victories.
It is with great pleasure we welcome the players of the 74th Florida Open Championship, adding to Pine Tree Golf Club’s rich history of golf. We wish all participants to play well & enjoy the competition.
Warm regards,
Justin Thompson, PGA
