Memorandum to Contestants

On behalf of the FSGA, congratulations on qualifying for the 91st Amateur Championship.  We hope that you enjoy your experience in competing at a State Championship and take many favorable memories from your time at the Jupiter Hills Club.

Please take time to carefully read through this packet of information.  There are several important pieces of information contained here, some of which require action by you, by a certain time (e.g. hotel reservations, practice rounds, etc.).  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the FSGA Championship Department at (813) 632-3742 or championships@fsga.org.

Pre-Registration Deadline

By 3:30 PM, Friday, June 13th, each player must:

All qualifying players must remit to the FSGA office, $125 per player for advance payment of Championship fees.  Championship fees include tee gift, cart fees and range balls for all competitive and practice rounds. Players may send a check to the FSGA office or pay by credit card online through the My FSGA Account section at www.fsga.org.  Payment must be received by 3:30 PM, Friday, June 13th, or you will be withdrawn from the Championship. Exempt players are automatically pre-registered with a complete entry.

Failure to meet this deadline will result in withdrawal of your entry.  The place will then be offered to an alternate.  We stress that all players who qualify must meet the deadline of 3:30 PM, Friday, June 13th.

Championship Format

Seventy-two holes of individual stroke play. All players play eighteen holes each on the Hills Course and the Village Course on Thursday, June 19th and Friday, June 20th.

The field will be cut to the low seventy players and ties after thirty-six holes. The final thirty-six holes will be played on the Hills Course. The lowest score for 72 holes will be the Champion. If necessary, there will be a three hole aggregate score play-off on holes 1, 5 & 6, for champion. If the play-off results in a tie, play will immediately continue, hole by hole on holes 10 & 18. It is the player’s responsibility to be present for any playoff.

On the Village Course the starting tees that will be used for the Championship are #1 and #8.

Transportation to the Village 8th Hole

For any player that will be starting on the 8th hole of the Village Course on Thursday or Friday, please allow a 15 minute drive to the starting tee.  The FSGA will have a player registration set up near the practice green behind the South driving range to release the groups. All three players in the group should arrive at this registration area 20 minutes before their tee time so they can allow for enough time to get to the 8th tee of the Village Course.   Signs will be set up along the roadway to direct players to the tee.

Tee Times & Groupings

Tee times and pairings groups will be arranged and posted on the FSGA website at www.fsga.org  on or before June 11th. All competitors with a valid email address on file with the FSGA will have a link to the pairings emailed to them.

Practice Rounds & Practice Facilities

Practice rounds are available starting Saturday June 14th on a space available basis on both courses.  Practice rounds are restricted to after 9:00 AM on the weekend prior to the Championship.

All players must take a cart and the cost of the practice round, including range balls and cart, is $29 plus tax. Players are allowed one practice round per course at the $29 plus tax rate.  The cost for any additional practice rounds will be $129 plus tax including cart.  Only exempt and qualifying participants may play practice rounds.

Starting times for your practice round can be arranged by calling the club. The golf shop telephone number is (561) 746-5228.   On Tuesday & Wednesday, all golf carts must be returned by 6:00 PM.

You may not make your practice round tee time before groupings are made. Groupings will be made on Wednesday, June 11th and faxed to the club that morning.

Players MUST use the appropriate driving range for the course they are playing that day during the Championship.  (I.E. - If you are playing the Village Course round one, you should be warming up on the South driving range and if you are playing the Hills Course, you should warm up on the North driving range.)

Players will be allowed to practice after their practice rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday and after each competitive round.  The practice facilities will close at 6:00 PM each day.  Any players playing a practice round before Tuesday, June 17th, will be allowed to use the practice facility before that round only.

Driving Range Hours

The driving ranges will be open at 6:45 AM Thursday - Sunday.  Both driving ranges will remain open until 6:00 PM for the competitors to practice after their round each day.

GPS and Range Finders

In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.”

Pace of Play

In order to accommodate 168 players, it is essential that the game be played at a brisk pace which may be defined as 4:15 in groups of three during the Championship rounds.  If and when it should become necessary to give players in each group a penalty for slow play, we hope they will react with the understanding that we do it in the best interest of the Championship and the other players.  The pace of play for the Championship will be posted on the Notice to Players. FSGA Pace of Play Policy.

The FSGA pace of play policy utilizes a two checkpoint system.

  • Players will not receive warnings.
  • Each group is responsible for monitoring their own pace.
  • To avoid penalty, groups must complete each checkpoint hole:
    1. Within 15 minutes of the group ahead, or
    2. Under the allotted time.
  • Checkpoints on the Hills Course will be on holes #9 and #18.
  • Checkpoints on the Village Course will be on holes #7 and #18.
  • All players in a group in breach are subject to penalty.

Position with Group Ahead – To stay within 15 minutes of the group ahead, players should never have an open hole and they should be in the fairway on par 4’s and 5’s when the group ahead leaves the green.

As each group completes a checkpoint hole, a Checkpoint Official will verbally advise the group’s status.

Jupiter Hills Club Information

In the late 1960’s, William Elliott, George Fazio, William Clay Ford, Sr. and Bob Hope joined ranks for the purpose of establishing an exclusive, private golf club in southeast Florida – a club that would eventually rank among the finest in the world. The Jupiter Hills Club they formed, with its two marvelous 18-hole championship courses, has achieved the singular distinction the original founders conceived for it. It is today considered one of America’s finest private golf clubs.

Because the courses are superbly situated on the dunes and rolling hills of Florida’s coastal zone, Jupiter Hills’ two creations resemble the finest courses of the Carolina foothills, with one unique advantage – they enjoy the benevolence of a year-round subtropical climate.

…The Hills Course…

The 7,344-yard, par 70 Hills Course opened in 1970. Designed by George Fazio, the championship layout brings together the land and player through hilly fairways and golf holes woven through forests of pine, oak and palmetto.

…The Village Course…

The 6,812-yard, par 72 Village Course opened in 1979. Designed by George Fazio and his nephew Tom Fazio, is similar in terrain to the Hills Course, but distinctive in character and ambiance, providing a totally different challenge.

In 1987, Jupiter Hills’ two championship courses hosted the prestigious United States Amateur Championship, marking the first time this major tournament was played in the State of Florida.
