Palm Beach Gardens, FL. – Four teams were crowned Men’s Net Four-Ball champions at The Estates Course within PGA National Resort. Battling through the elements, the following teams came out on top. William Gariepy & Travas Houston, Jose Machado & Frank Torres, Kevin Hewlett & Arne Victorine, Bruce Moskovciak & John Thompson (pictured left to right).
Under 50 Division
After Round 1, we saw numerous familiar faces at the top. Former Net Champions, Dave Mealey & Brian Soldano, caught fire on their last few holes to spring board their way into first place. The pair shot an impressive round of 63 (-9) to narrowly hold off the rest of the pack. Close behind was the team of William Gariepy & Travas Houston (-8), as well as Daniel Eggertsson & Ian Steele (-7). It was truly anyone's game heading into Sunday, and the final round didn't dissapoint.
Early into the final round Gariepy & Houston quickly erased the one shot deficit, and hopped into first place. The team of Mealy & Soldano wouldn't go down without a fight though as they saw themselves only one shot back heading into the difficult stretch of Holes 15-18. Coming the down the stretch, Gariepy & Houston were able to hold on and complete the final round comeback.
50-59 Division
Through 18 holes, we saw a log jam at the top of the leaderboad with four teams all within one shot of the lead. The team of Jose Machado & Frank Torres, fired the low round of the day within their division, and came in with a score of 67 (-5). After their impressive opening round, they were one clear of Anderson & Stone, Rolfs & Stevens, and Daley & Bradley who all shot 68 (-4). Sleeping on a one shot lead is never an easy task, and the teams tied for second saw the Championship within reach.
Despite the breezy conditions, Machado & Torres came out of the gates hot and expanded their lead by going -3 in the first three holes. From there they didn't look back, and put the event in cruis control for most of the day. The team of Daley & Bradley made a late push, but in the end it wasn't enough to spoil the wire to wire victory.
60-69 Division
Going into Sunday morning, the team of Hyer & Hart, set themselves up nicely after shooting the low round of the tournament 61 (-11). They saw themselves five shots clear of the next closest team, Peacock & Lopes, who fired a first round of 66 (-6). Rounding out the top three was the team of the Hewlett & Victorine, who couldn't be counted out due to their past success.
Early in the final round, Hyer & Hart quickly saw their five shot cushion evaporate, so everyone knew it was going to come down to the end. In dramatic fashion, the top three times after Round 1, were all tied for the lead with a total of 135 (-9), meaning it all came down to the playoff (low final round score). By making a net eagle on 11, and a net birdie on 12, the team of Hewlett & Victorine finished -3 in the final two holes, to capture the win / sneak out the tie breaker.
70 & Over Division
Not much to say in this one, as the team of Moskovciak & Thompson showed their dominance throughout the weekend. After firing an impressive opening round of 65 (-7), they followed it up, and even improved in the final round by coming in with a score of 64 (-8).
The pair finished with a two day total of 129 (-15) which was a whopping ten shots clear of the second place team. Moskovciak on his own ball shot a smooth 66 on Sunday, being one of the more impressive rounds this championship has ever seen.
