The leaderboard is crowded after the first round of the 83'd Florida State Amateur Championship, but three players including two-time champion Mark Leetzow are at the top.
Leetzow, a left-hander from Sarasota who won the State Amateur in 1995 and 1997, shot 2-under par 70 at the 7,100 yard Pine Tree Golf Club in Boynton Beach. Tampa's Kevin Mock and Clearwater's Brendan Takacs also shot 2-under par 70's to share the lead.
Seven players shot even-par to trail by two, while 31 players are within 4 strokes of the leaders. Gainesville's Buddy Alexander, the 1991 State Amateur champion and current golf coach at the University of Florida, shot a 1-over 73, while Doug LaCrosse, the 1992 State Amateur champion, was one of 12 players to shoot a 2-over par 74.
Round two begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. The top 70 plus ties after the second round will advance to the weekend.
