Major Manning of Ormond Beach fired a 3-under par 69 to lead the 45th Florida State Junior Championship at Disney's Magnolia and Palm courses on Monday. Daytona Beach's Matt Every and Sarasota's Joey Lamielle are just a stroke back after both posted a 2-under par 70.
Manning, who was runner-up at last year's State Junior, made five birdies and two bogeys during his 35-34--69 round. He started strong by making a birdie on his first hole. Both his bogeys during the day were followed by a birdie on the next hole. Both Every and Lamielle shot 70 with four birdies and two bogeys. Every finished strong with birdies at the 15th and 16th hole, while Lamielle bogeyed his 18th hole.
In the 12-14 year old division, Marco Morales of Homestead and Tyler Rucarean of Gainesville both shot 2-over par 74's. Rucarean finished his round with a bogey.
The final round will start Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. An awards ceremony will be held following the completion of play.
