Matt Avril and Ron Green both posted a 2-under par 70, while Craig Adams added a 1-under 71. A 1-over par 73 from John Robinson was also used in the team’s 4-under par 284 totLake Nona holds a six-stroke lead over Avila Golf and Country Club (Tampa), and a seven-stroke lead over Bloomingdale Golfers Club (Tampa).
The defending champions from Tampa Palms Country Club are in fourth place, but stand 14 strokes behind the leaders. John Fowler shot a 2-under par 70 to lead Avila, while Gerald Coren and Paul Royak added 1-over 73’s. Tom Johnson’s 74 was also used. Avila is trying to win the championship for the 10th time. They won six consecutive years from 1991 until 1996.
Another Tampa club who has had great success in the Club Team, Bloomingdale, has won four titles. Their last was 1990. Bill Moore led the team Saturday with a 3-under par 69.
Jimmy Jones led the defending champions from Tampa Palms with 1-under 71.
Matthew Bodul of Temple Terrace’s “C” team made a hole-in-one on the sixth hole of the South course with a six-iron from 164 yards. His team stands in 25th place.
The final round will be played Sunday, April 30. Twenty-eight teams will continue to compete, with four of the five gross scores determining the team total.
