The Senior Division Championship flight quarterfinals are set featuring three past Senior Amateur Champions vying for the title. The 2007 Senior Amateur Champion Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale, will face off against Ron Cleland, of Naples, the 2006 Senior Amateur Champion. Woulfe, the number one seed, beat Tom White, of Fort Myers, 6 and 4, and went on to defeat defending champion Berger Warner, of Ocala, 1 up in the Round of 16. The 2004 Senior Amateur Champion Bruce Scamehorn, of Winter Haven, is also in the upper half of the bracket and will play William Goshorn, from Sarasota, in a quarterfinal match. The lower half of the bracket features Jim Kehoe, of Bradenton against David Boesel, from Winter Park and Gary Golbesky, of Port Saint Lucie, will play Randy Briggs, from Ocala.
In the Senior Division first flight, top seeded Doug Oselett, of Cape Coral, advanced to the quarters defeating Dwaine Rooney, of Fort Myers, 2 up. Oselett will now face Bill Young, from Naples, in Tuesday’s match. William Freeman, of Boynton Beach, the second seed, also advances after beating Dan Perka, from Bradenton, 1 up. In the second flight, the top three seeds advanced with a bye while Tommy Piazza, of Sarasota, the fourth seed, will move on after winning his match 2 and 1.
In the Super Senior Championship flight, top seed Jim DuBois, of Coral Springs, won his match 1 up as second seed Terry Louis, of Palm Beach Gardens, won his match 7 and 6. The Super Senior first flight is down to four golfers featuring top seed Tom Luyster, of Jacksonville, against Don Lambert, of Foley, in one semifinal match as Artie Reiss, of Sarasota, will play Ron Goldburg, of Delray Beach, in the other semifinal match.
To be eligible, players must have reached 55 years of age by July 8, 2007. All players traveling to Sara Bay were guaranteed an 18-hole seeding round and at least one round of match play. After the 18-hole seeding round, the field of 88 (64 Seniors and 24 Super-Seniors) was seeded into a Senior Division Championship flight of 32 players and two additional flights of 16 players. Also, the 24 Super-Seniors were seeded into a flight of 16 and 8. Ultimately, there will be a Senior Amateur Match Play Champion and a Super-Senior Amateur Match Play Champion from each Championship flight.
