First round co-leader Jimi Brindell, of Tequesta, shot an even par 72 in the second round to match his first round score to remain in front of the field. Jon Veneziano, of Mount Dora, fired a 1-under par 71 in the second round to move ahead into a tie with Brindell. Veneziano, the 2005 Mid-Amateur Champion, shot a 73 in the first round. Kelly Gosse, of Inverness, recorded a 75-72—147 to trail the leaders by three and earn a spot in the final group. Gosse won lat year’s Match Play Championship Three players posted a two-round total of 148 as Chris Toomy, of Parkland, is the lone competitor at 150. The 2004 and 2005 Public Links Champion Robert Parker, of Sanford, shot a 75-78 to be in a tie for 14th place.
The Public Links Championship is open to bona fide public course players who are not members of a private club and also do not have a handicap index any higher than 6.4. Competitors play 18 holes of stroke play on each of the three days with the field flighted after 36 holes.

Organized in 1913, the Florida State Golf Association is a not-for-profit organization that governs amateur golf in the state of Florida. In addition to conducting 22 championships for amateur golfers in the state, the FSGA is responsible for over 40 qualifying tournaments for USGA National Championships and the Florida Junior Tour.
