Mid-Amateurs across the state will compete at the Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe this week, October 6-9, for the Florida State Mid-Amateur Championship. Nine qualifiers were held to complete the field of 90 players.
This year’s field features the 2004 Champion, Steve Carter, of Jacksonville, who fired a three round total of 213 to win last year's Championship. Due to threatening weather, the Championship was modified to a 54-hole stroke play competition. Kelly Gosse, of Inverness, who was the 2005 Match Play Champion, will also be competing. The 2005 Public Links Champion, Robert Parker, of Sanford, will be playing as well as the 2003 Mid-Amateur Champion, Ryan Konkus, of Hobe Sound.
To be eligible for the State Mid-Amateur, participants must be 25 years of age or older. More than 480 entries were received for this year’s Championship. Participants qualified in an 18-hole stroke play format to advance to the Championship. The Championship consists of 36-holes of stroke play qualifying over the first two days with the lowest 16 advancing to the match play on Saturday and Sunday.
