The Public Links Championship is open to bona fide public course players who are not members of a private club and also do not have a handicap index no higher than 8.4. Competitors play 18 holes of stroke play on the first day and then, the field is flighted and competitors play another 18 holes of stroke play on the final day.
Last year at Falcon’s Fire Golf Club, Robert Parker, from Sanford, shot a 71-67—138 to win the title. Parker is in this year’s field to defend his title as well as Paul Melson, of Plantation, who won the Championship in 2001. Andy Purnell, of Jacksonville, who recently won the Four-Ball Championship with partner Steve Carter, is also in the field this weekend. Purnell won the 2003 Match Play Championship and was crowned Player-of-the-Year in 2003.
