Ernst Leads After Day One of Mid-Senior

Scott Ernst fired a score of 70 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie to lead the Florida State Mid-Senior Championship.  

Ernst, of Naples, leads the field after shooting a 2-under par on the North course. David Sutton, from Maitland, and Ed McFee, of Orlando, are one back from the leader after posting a 1-under par 71. Sutton played the North course while McFee shot the 71 on the South course. Six players are two back from the leader shooting an even par 72 including the 2002 Mid-Amateur Champion David Anthony, from Jacksonville. Also at 72 is Bret Voisin, of Orlando, who recently was part of the winning team of the Florida State Four-Ball Championship and Parent-Child Championship. Defending Champion, Paul Melson, of Plantation, and the 2002 Champion, John Corzilius, of Englewood, each shot a 73 on the South course. 

To be eligible for the Mid-Senior Championship, players must be age 40 or older. The Championship is 54 holes of stroke play cut to the low 70 plus ties after 36 holes. Rounds one and two will be played on the North and South Courses with the final round on the South course.
