Four Super-Seniors Victorious at Buckhorn

September 23, 2025

VALRICO, Fla. – The cooling Florida weather certainly brought a breath of fresh air to the 52 teams who teed it up at this year’s Super-Senior Four-Ball Championship at Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club. David Tassell and Pete Williams have once again risen to the occasion. With a steady second-round 68 (-4), the duo captured their second consecutive Championship Division title. In the 70 & Over Division, Robert Cunningham and Bobby Lundquist never wavered, leading from start to finish to secure a wire-to-wire victory.

Championship Division

After the completion of the first round, defending champions Tassell and Williams were tied at the top with Walter Himelsbaugh & Terry Hinkle after both teams opened with 65 (-7). Tassell & Williams finished the day bogey free while Himelsbaugh and Hinkle combined for nine birdies and two bogeys.

As the second round began, Tassell and Williams wasted no time chasing another title. The pair stormed to double digits under par before the turn, carding birdies on the 2nd, 4th, and 7th holes to climb to 10-under and open up a four-shot lead on the field.

Two teams, including yesterday’s co-leaders Himelsbaugh & Hinkle and the duo of Jack Hannon & Richard Kerper, made a push to reach 8-under, trimming the gap to just three shots behind Tassell and Williams. But the defending champions never flinched, holding their ground to turn their title defense into back-to-back victories.

In second place was the team of Hannon and Kerper after rounds of 69-66--135. Himelsbaugh and Hinkle rounded out the top three after rounds of 65-71--136.

70 & Over Division

Meanwhile, in the 70 & Over Division, Robert Cunningham & Bobby Lundquist lead the way after their first round of 68 (-4) which included 6 birdies. Buckhorn members, Lenny Barthle & Pete Andrews were still in striking distance in second place by two shots after an opening 70 (-2).

Cunningham and Lundquist came out firing on the second day. The duo put together a bogey-free final round 67 (-5) to finish three strokes ahead of the rest of the division and achieve a wire-to-wire victory. The duo's round was complimented by an eagle made by both Cunningham and Lundquist on the 8th hole.

In second place in the 70 & Over Division was Robert Thorpe and Neil Kopinski who put together rounds of 71-67--138. Finishing in third place was the duo of Andrews and Barthle firing rounds of 70-71--141.
