OCALA, Fla. – The Women’s Interclub matches began back in January with six weekly matches. Regional playoffs started at the end of February with the Playoff Finals following less than a month later in March. In the end, it was fourteen teams who advanced and competed in the Women’s Interclub Championship this week.
The championship was held at the beautiful but challenging Club Adena in Ocala, FL. The format of the event included thirty-six holes of net stableford stroke play in which the highest team stableford point total wins. Each day, the three best scores counted for each team out of the four players. After the first round, Estero Country Club and The Palencia Club led the way with a total of 113 points which gave them a four point lead heading into the final round.
During the final round, it was The Palencia Club that ended up pulling away from the rest of the field. Maria Nilsson led her team on the final day and posted three net birdies in her last five holes. The St. Augustine based club posted a total of 218 points over the two rounds and won by a total of eleven points. The club’s point total is the highest in the history of Women’s Interclub Championship.
