DADE CITY, Fla. – Circa 1974, 16-year-old Peter Wegmann made his mark by winning the Boys’ Junior Championship title. Little did he know that years later, in 2025, he would be celebrating yet another triumph, this time claiming the Super-Senior Amateur Championship and becoming a four-time FSGA winner. The 2016 Player of the Year has once again proven his enduring talent, posting rounds of 74-67-70--211, but it wasn’t without a fight.
Wegmann found himself trailing the field with a T14 finish after the first round. However, things took a turn for the better in the second round, as he shot an impressive 67 (-5), propelling him up the leaderboard and into first place as he headed into the final round.
Peter Wegmann held firm at the top of the leaderboard throughout the final round, but Doug Snoap was hot on his heels, staying within striking distance. As the players made the turn, it became more clear the title was going to come down to the only two players under par—Wegmann and Snoap. Through 15 holes, Wegmann was 4-under, while Snoap, just one stroke back, was sitting at 3-under with two to play. On the 18th hole, Snoap had a 20-foot birdie putt to tie Wegmann, but it slid just inches past the cup. Meanwhile, back on the 16th, Wegmann faltered with a bogey, falling to 3-under and bringing them level for a brief moment.
The lead however, belonged to Wegmann, who on the 17th hole, stuck it pin-high and set himself up with a 15-foot birdie putt. He made no mistake, sinking it to get back to 4-under. But Wegmann wasn’t finished. In a display of pure confidence, he capped off his round with a birdie on the 18th, reaching 5-under and extending his lead to 2 strokes over the rest of the field.
Snoap captured a second place finish at 3-under after rounds of 72-72-69--213, while Earl Lanoue would round out the top three finishing at 1-under.
