DADE CITY, Fla. – The second round of the Super-Senior Amateur Championship has wrapped up, and the field has been narrowed down to 60 players. But all eyes were on one golfer today, Peter Wegmann. After a 2-over (74) start in round one, Wegmann staged an incredible comeback, firing a 5-under 67 in round two. His performance earned him the top spot as we head into the final round.
What Happened?
The afternoon wave from yesterday got off to a strong start this morning, with Craig Howell leading at 3-under through the first nine holes. Howell, who finished tied for fifth after the first round, birdied the second hole and eagled the third, eventually shooting a 1-under 71. This placed him in third, just one stroke off the lead as the afternoon wave began. Earl Lanoue, who posted an even-par first round, found his rhythm with an eagle on the ninth hole. He added three more birdies on the back nine to finish the day in solo second place.
The afternoon wave began at 12:30 PM, which consisted of David Tassell who captured a second place finish at the completion of Round One. Tassell, who would go +4 through the first 4 holes, tried to fight back, but ultimately finished at 3-over total.
Peter Wegmann stole the spotlight today. After starting the day tied for 14th, he clawed his way back into contention with one birdie after another. With seven birdies on the scorecard, Wegmann surged 13 spots up the leaderboard, seizing the top spot heading into the final round.

The field has been narrowed to 60 players. Tomorrow morning's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM. The leading two groups will tee off at 8:00 and 8:10 AM from hole #1.
