PALM COAST, Fla. – It was another patience-testing day at Hammock Dunes Club as the players battled not only the tough course, but the elements as well. With sustained winds throughout the afternoon, the cut line settled at 20-over, leaving 62 players who will advance to Championship Sunday.
What Happened?
After round two, with a scoring average of around 81, the players continued to struggle on the challenging recently renovated layout. Lance LaCombe, who led yesterday, maintained his position at the top by posting an even-par 72 and 1-under total. When asked about his round, LaCombe stated “The big thing I focused on was hitting fairways and greens. The greens are firm and fast and with where the pins are at there’s not really much you can do with trying to flag shots.”
Ty Capps, Hammock Dunes Club member, made a strong move up the leaderboard, climbing 10 spots after a second-round 71 (-1), securing second place heading into the final round. Capps’ performance was highlighted by four birdies—two on the front nine and two more on the back. Thad Hudgens also surged up the standings, joining Capps in a tie for second. In fourth place, a three-way tie surfaced between Jonah Wasserstrom, Christopher Kupniewski, and Jimmy Kozikowski, all sitting at 3-over.
