PALM COAST, Fla – The Creek Course at Hammock Dunes Club showed its teeth to the competitors of the Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Cool temperatures and a light breeze, paired with the course's firm, fast layout, proved to be a challenging test.
What Happened?
The players certainly battled against the Creek Course during Round One. The first wave, teeing off from 7:15 AM to 8:36 AM, struggled with all players finishing over par. Christopher Kupniewski emerged with the best score of the early wave, posting a 1-over (73).
The second wave began at 11:15 AM, and as the morning group experienced, the course was not forgiving. Lance LaCombe was the only player in the field to break par, shooting a 1-under (71) to take the lead heading into the second round. Christopher Kupniewski and Jay Halverson were tied for second, both posting even-par 72s. Kupniewski bounced back from a double bogey on the 8th hole, carding four birdies on the back nine to secure his spot. Halverson started strong, birdieing both the 1st and 13th holes, but adversity on holes 3 and 18 prevented him from going under par, leaving him tied for second.
Jimmy Kozikowski and Will Davenport sit tied for fourth at 1-over (73).
