ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Women’s Winter Series were introduced in 2023 to provide more competitive multi-day opportunities for women. Since their inception, participation in the events has doubled, with our first one of the season taking place at World Golf Village, Slammer and Squire Courses. The golf course was the perfect stage, as it possesses a great challenging layout with tricky greens, and lots of places to get into trouble, in turn making safe golf, smart golf. However, despite all these challenges, it was Culver, Nilsson, Cholette-Haley, and Capozzoli to rise above and crown their respective divisions
Championship Division
Round one brought some familiar faces to the top of the leaderboard. Tama Caldabaugh topped the leaderboard with a steady score of 34 points. However not far behind were Lin Culver and Robin Nigro. Caldabaugh carded 15 pars and one birdie, which was key to her success in round one.
With several within reach at the beginning of round two it was anyone's day. Caldabaugh remained steady throughout the day, but after the front nine, Lin Culver started to strike! Culver carded two birdies, on the back nine, these surged her to the top of leaderboard. Culver posted an impressive 33 points, this would secure her the win in the Championship division.
Middle Division
Maria Nilsson would capture the lead in round one, and never look back. Carding an impressive 28 points would leave Nillsson with a three stroke lead going into round two.
Although players like Rebecca Schiff and Cindy Globush would try to catch Nilsson, neither would be successful, as Nilsson would be crowned the winner of the Middle Division.
Forward Division
Peg Larson was the leader of the forward division after round one, but had the rest of the field nipping at her heels, which would lead to an interesting round 2.
In round two, it would be Louise Cholette-Haley and Michele Gagnon who would be fighting for first place. At the end of the day it was Cholette-Haley who would reign victorious in the forward division.
Forward First Division
In the forward first division, it was Veronica Slain who held the two-point lead over Anna Capozzoli.
Capozzoli would combat the deficit in round two, and continue on to win the division by three points.
