PALM HARBOR, Fla. – The stunning weather perfectly matched the impressive lineup at the 2nd Florida Adaptive Open held at Innisbrook Resort & Spa. Defending champion Eli Villanueva reclaimed the lead in the Men’s Overall division with a solid even-par 70, while Amanda Cunha took the top spot in the Women’s Overall division with a score of 76 (+6).
What Happened?
Men’s Overall
Villanueva came out strong from the start, recording a birdie on the third hole to move under par early in the round. A couple of setbacks on the ninth and 16th holes pushed him back to one over. However, a birdie on the 18th hole propelled him into first place as he heads into the final round. In second place is Jason Hasty, who achieved his lowest competitive round ever with a 1-over 71, featuring birdies on the first and 12th holes. Luke Carroll and Jake Beausir are tied for third following the first round.
Women’s Overall
Amanda Cunha, a University of Arizona student and member of the Arizona Adaptive Golf program, secured the lead after the first round with a 6-over 76. Ryanne Jackson is in second place, finishing her opening round with a score of 78 (+8), starting strong with a birdie on the first hole. Abigail Davis who found an eagle on the first hole would also find two birdies on the second and eighth hole, and ultimately finish her day with a 79 (+9) and sit in third going into the final round.
What’s Next?
Round two will kick off with a shotgun start at 8:00 AM. By the end of the day, we will announce our overall champions as well as the winners in each Impairment Category.
Notable
- Abigail Davis and Kenny Bontz were the only two players to post an Eagle.
- Between all 55 players who teed off, there was a cumulative of 44 birdies.
- Hole three played the easiest while hole 12 played the hardest.
- Eli Villanueva was the only player to shoot even-par.
