Moman and Kashima Lead the Way

July 5, 2024

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – The first round of the 30th Women’s Amateur Stroke Play has come to completion with two players sharing the lead. Madison Moman and One Kashima both fired a three-under-par, 69 today to sit in first place only one stroke ahead of the field.

Moman played a consistent bogey-free round en route to shooting a 69. “I just take it one shot at a time and I don’t really overthink things. Just set up for par and if the birdies drop, they drop. Luckily, I had three birdie putts drop today and hopefully a few more drop tomorrow.”

Moreover, if you have been following our women’s championships this season then One Kashima is a familiar name as she advanced all the way to the final match of the 95th Women’s Amateur Championship in June. This is her first tournament since the Women’s Amateur and she came out hot once again in contention after the first day. “I gained a lot of confidence at the Women’s Am and it feels really good to play another big event, and I am excited for the next two days.”

There are currently three players tied for third place all posting scores of two-under-par, 70. Bretton Mackiewicz spoke about her round, “I played really well today and I also putted really well, which is what I have been really working on, so I am really happy about that and it is nice to see the hard work pay off.”  Lauren Clark and Ariana Silva are the other two competitors with a share of third place only one stroke off the lead.
