Six players share the lead heading into the second round of play in the 52nd Senior Amateur Championship at Quail Ridge Country Club, in Boynton Beach. Second round tee-times begin at 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 17th with the final round on Thursday, April 18th.
After posting two-under par 70, six players hold a share of the lead at the 52nd Senior Amateur. Playing in the morning wave Howard Logan, of Naples, and the 2007 Champion, Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale set the early pace grabbing a share of the lead. They were later joined by: Sam Till, of Fort Wayne, IN, Gordon Marshall, of Sarasota, Mike Bodney, of Jacksonville, and Robbie Dew, of Palm Beach Gardens. Other notable players in the mix include the 2011 Champion Jim Carley, of Ormond Beach, after his round of one-under par 71 and multiple FSGA Champion, Doug LaCrosse, of Tampa, who posted even par. There are currently 26 players within three shots of the lead, which should set up an exciting finish.
Since the number of entries received has always surpassed the capacity of the Championship, a qualifying stage was instituted in 2005. While 51 players earned exempt status through a variety of different means, more than 300 participants attempted to qualify at one of seven sites across the state, as competitors played 18 holes of stroke play hoping to advance to the Championship. Participants must be 55 or older to participate in the Championship. Players who advanced to the Championship compete in 54-holes of stroke play with a cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes.
