Florida to Represent at U.S. Women’s Four-Ball

DUPONT, Wash. – One-hundred and twenty-eight of the best amateurs in the world will travel to DuPont, Washington to compete in the 2023 U.S. Women’s Four-Ball held May 13-17. Qualifying took place over twenty-six sites across the United States and amongst the sixty-four teams competing, 10 teams consist of Floridians.

The tournament starts with thirty-six holes of stroke play followed by a cut. In order to advance to match play, the side must survive the cut and lie within the top-32 teams.

Let’s take a look at the nine teams representing Florida. Of these 10 teams, five players are Team Florida members. 

Kaitlyn Schroeder and Bailey Shoemaker

Kaitlyn Schroeder and Bailey Shoemaker made it all the way to the finals at the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship in Puerto Rico. Each player has a remarkable playing career, so it is no surprise that they make an excellent team. These two posed a challenge for their opponents last year, came close to a victory, and have hopes of raising the trophy in May.

Jacksonville native, Kaitlyn Schroeder is a freshman at the University of Alabama and she has earned titles such as the 2022 AJGA Rolex Girls Junior Player of the Year and 2021 U.S. Junior Solheim Cup Team. The FJT alum also capture back-to-back Florida Girls’ Junior titles in 2019 and 2020.

On the other hand, Dade City native, Bailey Shoemaker has committed to the University of Southern California and she has some prestigious titles to her name as well. Some of her career highlights include advancing to the semi-finals of the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, making the cut at the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open, and capturing the victory at the 2022 Florida Women’s Amateur Championship.

Kendall Griffin and Elle Nachmann

Kendall Griffin and Elle Nachmann are also teaming up for the second consecutive year. The duo competed in the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals falling to Schroeder and Shoemaker.

Sebring native, Kendall Griffin graduated from the Louisiana State University and University of Louisville and had an outstanding college career. She is currently the assistant golf coach at the University of Indiana. Griffin, the 2021 Florida Women’s Amateur Champion, has made several appearances in USGA events including reaching the quarterfinals of the 2016 U.S. Girls’ Junior, and the semifinals of the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship.

In addition, Elle Nachmann makes up the other half of this pair. The Boca Raton native is in her junior year at the University of Pennsylvania. She has had a lot of success in FSGA tournaments including capturing victories at the Women’s Four-Ball, the Women’s Amateur Stroke Play and being named the 2020 FSGA Women’s Player of the Year. This side is made up of two experienced champions that will present a battle to anyone they play against.

Kayla Bryant and Layla Pedrique

Kayla Bryant and Layla Pedrique both play on the Florida Junior Tour and are also both members of Team Florida. The pair is set to make their first appearance as a team at the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship. Bryant, residing in Boca Raton, will graduate from FAU High School in 2026 and she has already captured two Florida Junior Tour victories this year and won the 2022 Florida Junior Amateur Match Play Championship.

In addition, her teammate, Layla Pedrique, competed in the 2022 U.S. Girls’ Junior. She is set to graduate from FLVS in 2025 and is a four-time FJT winner.   

Siuue Wu and Tsamue Wu

Sisters, Siuue Wu and Tsamue Wu make another strong team of Florida Junior Tour players at the Championship. Siuue is a four-time Florida Junior Tour champion and Team Florida member and partner, Tsamue has already captured an FJT victory this year. Both players are making their first appearance as a team at the U.S. Amateur Women’s Four-Ball with hopes having their names etched in history.

Meghan Stasi

FSGA Hall of Famer and 2024 USA Curtis Cup captain, Meghan Stasi has partnered with Dawn Woodard of Greenville, South Carolina to make an appearance at yet another USGA event. Stasi has become a household name in amateur golf and with good reason. She has a resume highlighted by four USGA wins, 17 state championship victories and is an eight-time FSGA Women’s Player of the Year.  Stasi and Woodard have teamed up various times in the past advancing to the Round of 16.

Bridget Ma

Florida Junior Tour player, Bridget Ma has paired together with Florida resident Julie Shin. Ma is no stranger to playing in USGA events as she competed in the 2022 U.S. Girls’ Junior and the 2022 U.S. Amateur Women’s Four-Ball. In addition, Ma also advanced to match play at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. Ma has already secured four top-five finishes in Florida Junior Tour events this year.

Taylor Roberts and Chloe Schiavone

University of Florida junior, Taylor Roberts has paired up with Notre Dame University junior, Chloe Schiavone. Both players had an outstanding Florida Junior Tour career each earning accolades such as, Girls’ Junior Player of the Year and Junior Florida Cup team members. Another sharp team out of the Florida Junior Tour hopes to raise a trophy at the end of the championship.

Gianna Clemente

Gianna Clemente and Avery Zweig have teamed up for the third consecutive year in hopes of having their names etched in history. Clemente and Zweig advanced all the way to the semi-finals in 2021 and made it to the Round of 16 in 2022. The Estero native, is no stranger to playing golf on the big stage.

Clemente secured a runner-up finish at the 2022 Girls’ Junior at The Club at Olde Stone in Kentucky. In addition, she secured another runner-up finish at the AJGA Rolex Girls Junior Championship and reached match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Clemente, at only 14 years old, become the youngest player to Monday qualify for three consecutive LPGA Tour events. She also won three World Amateur Golf Ranking events. Her partner Avery Zweig resides in McKinney, Texas.

Haley Davis

In addition, Florida Junior Tour player, Haley Davis is teaming up with Avery McCrery from Wilmington, Delaware. The Ocala native is set to graduate high school in 2025 and has already captured a top-5 finish in a Florida Junior Tour Exempt Only event this year. Davis played in the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball championship but fell short of advancing to match play.

Georgia Ruffolo of Tampa is partnering with Caroline Smith of Inverness, Ill. Ruffolo is a junior at Wake Forest University and is making her second consecutive USGA appearance at the Women’s Four-Ball Championship.

Remi Bacardi and Madison Moman

Florida Junior Tour players, Remi Bacardi and Madison Moman are teeing up this week at the U.S. Women's Four-Ball, both competing in their first USGA championship. Bacardi had a breajout season in 2022, winning the 13-15 division at the Florida Girls' Junior Championship and picking up two FJT victories. Moman also had a standout season on the Florida Junior Tour last year, capturing four titles.
