Road to the U.S. Open: Local Qualifying

TAMPA, Fla. – The road to the 123rd U.S. Open Championship began in late April with Local Qualifying. Over a record breaking 10,000 professional and amateur golfers registered in hopes of making it to this year’s U.S. Open at The Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, California. 

Local qualifying took place at 109 sites in the United States, Japan and Canada. Eleven of these sites were located in the state of Florida. Once making it through Local Qualifying, players get the opportunity to play in a Final Qualifier to have a chance at playing in the U.S. Open.

The state of Florida will host one of 10 Final Qualifiers taking place at Pine Tree Golf Club in Boynton Beach, Florida. Players that made it through the first stage of qualifying will join those who already have exemptions into the final stage. After 36 holes of play, the top finishers will be able to add their names to the field of 156 players at the 123rd U.S. Open.

Coral Ridge Country Club

Andrew Filbert of Naples, Fla. - Medalist

Andrew Filbert earned medalist honors to punch his ticket into the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Shooting an impressive 68 (-3) with five birdies and only two bogeys on the card. This Naples native is extremely eager to get back out in the field as the U.S. Open would not be his PGA Tour debut. He has played in four PGA Tour events and the PGA Championship. 

Blair Bursey of Canada - Qualified

Shooting 71 (-1) with three birdies and only one double bogey on the card, Bursey was able to secure his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Graduating from Utah Valley University, he became one of the top ranked amateurs in Canada. After turning professional in 2018, Blair had an injury. Since then, he has been building his professional resume playing in events all over the world as he is still fighting to make his debut on the PGA Tour.   

Christian Chapman of Victor, New York - Qualified

After bogeying his first hole, Christian battled the course to secure his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship by shooting 71 (-1) with four birdies and three bogeys on the card. Fresh out of college, Chapman is looking to make his mark. While playing for St. Bonaventure University, he finished his senior year averaging a 72.69 with 13 tournaments under his belt.    

Michael Buttacavoli of Miami Beach, Fla. - Qualified

Finishing his round with the most made birdies of the day, Michael secured his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship by shooting 71 (-1) with six birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey on the card. Buttacavoli is an American professional who currently plays on the PGA Tour Latin America, having previously played on the NGA Pro Golf Tour.   

Christian De Greiff of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Qualified

After being two under after five holes, De Greiff finished his round with an even 72 to secure his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. He had five birdies and bogeys on the card. De Greiff, the teaching professional at Coral Ridge Country Club, was named the 2020 South Florida PGA Player of the Year by playing in over 20 events to secure the title.   

Rocky Bayou Country Club

Chad Smith (a) of Valdosta, Georgia - Medalist

Finishing with a two shot lead, Chad Smith secured his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Starting out very strong on the front nine with two birdies and the rest being pars, Smith would then have two more birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to finish his round at an impressive 68 (-2) on a par 70.

Benjamin Perdue (a) of Chipley, Fla. - Qualified

Starting out the qualifier with a double bogey, Benjamin Perdue battled the course for his spot and came back to shoot an even 70 (E). With five birdies, three bogeys, and one double, Perdue would secure his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. 

Jonathan Fricke (a) of Destin, Fla. - Qualified

Former PGA Tour professional, Jonathan Fricke posted a steady round of 71 (+1) where he had 2 birdies and three bogeys, he secured his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship.

Bradley Funderburk (a) of Trussville, Ala. - Qualified

Bradley Funderburk, an Alabama native, started out with a very steady front nine with one birdie and one bogey, followed by a back nine consisting of one birdie and three bogeys. Funderburk would go on to shoot 72 (+2) to secure his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. 

Brad Thorton of Lucedale, Mississippi - Qualified

Head golf coach of the Mississippi Gulf Coast CC Bulldogs, Brad Thorton, secured his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship by shooting 72 (+2). He battled the course throughout his round with four birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey.

The Cape Club of Palm City

Simon Griffiths of England – Medalist

Carding an 8-under, 64 Griffiths finished with only a one-stroke lead over the field and secured his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. He started out strong carding three birdies and one eagle to post a 31 making the turn at five-under par. Griffths showed no sign of slowing down as he eagled his tenth hole to start out his second nine. He finished with one more birdie and no bogeys to earn a well-deserved spot at the final qualifier in June. The England native has played on the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour and is looking to secure a spot in the 2023 U.S Open.

Amani Dambrosio (a) of Pittsburgh, Pa. – Qualified

The Barry University junior started out his round with a birdie on the first hole. Dambrosio continued to make four more birdies on his first nine to make the turn at five-under par and a share of the lead. He carded two more birdies on his back nine to fire a seven-under par, 65 and only one stroke off of medalist honors. Nevertheless, Dambrosio still secured a spot in the Final Qualifier.

Andy Pope of Glen Ellyn, Ill. – Qualified

Pope fired a five-under par, 67 to secure a spot at the Final Qualifier in June. He posted one birdie and one eagle on his first nine to make the turn at two-under par. He then posted three birdies on the back nine, which earned him a ticket to the finals. Pope has been playing golf professionally since 2006. Pope won the 2022 Florida Open and looks to tee it up in his sixth U.S. Open Championship and his first start since 2021. 

Olin Browne of Hobe Sound, Fla. – Qualified

Three-time PGA Tour champion, Olin Browne, carded a three-under par, 69 to secure his spot in the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Browne carded five birdies and two bogeys to finish with a 69. In addition to his PGA TOUR wins, Browne also has two PGA TOUR Champions victories. He currently plays on PGA TOUR Champions and has made 294 of 299 cuts. He joined the Champions Tour in 2009 and has recorded 49 top-10 finishes, four third place finishes, and four runner-up finishes.

Garrett Barber (a) of Stuart, Fla. – Qualified

LSU senior, Garrett Barber, birdied his last five consecutive holes to card a three-under, 69 and earn a spot at the U.S. Open Final Qualifier. The Stuart native had an impressive career at LSU earning accolades such as three-time All-Louisiana Player of the Year, First Team, PING Southeast All-Region Team, All-SEC Second team, and SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll. In addition, he led the team for three consecutive years with the lowest scoring average each year of 71.43, 71.45, and 71.15.

Wellington National Golf Club

Jordan Gumberg of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Medalist

Gumberg earned medalist honors and secured a spot at the Final Qualifier for the U.S. Open Championship after firing a 4-under, 68. He made the turn at one over par before heating up on the back nine. Gumberg birdied the first three holes on his second nine and continued to make two more birdies to post a five-under par back nine total and four-under par 18 hole total. Gumberg played college golf at the University of Arizona and turned professional in 2017. He has made appearances on the PGA TOUR and hopes to secure a spot in the 2023 U.S. Open Championship.

Cameron Kuchar (a) of Jupiter, Fla. – Qualified

Fifteen-year-old, Cameron Kuchar fired a 3-under 69 to earn a spot into the Final Qualifier. Kuchar carded four birdies en route to his 69 and fell short of medalist honors by only one stroke. Kuchar will be teeing it up at a Final Qualifier with his dad, PGA Tour player Matt Kuchar.

Austin Durand of West Palm Beach, Fla. – Qualified

Austin Durand posted a 2-under 70 and earned a spot at the Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Durand carded four birdies over the 18 holes. Turning professional in 2018, Durand has yet to make any PGA TOUR starts but hopes to earn his way into the 2023 U.S. Open Championship.

Scott Turner (a) of Stuart, Fla. – Qualified

FSGA champion, Scott Turner, earned a spot at the Final Qualifier carding a 1-under, 71 at Wellington. Turner posted two birdies on his first nine, making the turn at 2-under par. He continued on to make one more birdie and a double to finish at 1 under, which was enough to earn a spot to tee it up for the longest day of golf in June.

Ryan Davis of Berkeley Heights, NJ - Qualified

Davis started out with a birdie on the first hole and then proceeded to make four more birdies to make the turn at five-under on his first nine. Davis made four bogeys on his back nine to finish with a one-under par, 71 total and earned a spot in the Final Qualifier. Davis played college golf at Penn State University and turned professional in 2021. He has played in 12 events on the PGA TOUR and is hoping to add another event to the list with the 2023 U.S. Open Championship.

Cypress Run Golf Club

Nino Palmquist (a) of Sweden – Medalist

The Swedish native earned medalist honors and secured a spot at one the Final Qualifier for the U.S. Open Championship after an amazing round shooting six-under (-6), 66. With a steady round he was able to secure his spot with a total of 6 birdies and the rest all pars. Palmquist is a freshman on the Men’s Golf Team at the University of South Florida averaging a 71.1 in tournaments for his first collegiate year. Prior to USF, Palmquist was ranked No. 3 in the Swedish Under-18 Golf Rankings, was a member of the Swedish National Team, and ranked No. 64 in the European Under-18 Golf Rankings. .  

Christian DiMarco of Tampa, Fla. – Qualified

Christian DiMarco fired a five-under, 67 to earn a spot into one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship with one eagle, five birdies, and two bogeys. Making his debut to the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and the PGA Tour Canada and turning professional in 2018, DiMarco played in 27 events. Two of those 27 events where he made the cut to earn winnings.  

Daniel Robinson of Seminole, Fla. – Qualified

Daniel Robinson posted a four-under, 68 and earned a spot at one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Robinson carded five birdies and one bogey over the 18 holes. Turning professional in 2019, Robinson has played in five events between the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, two of which he made the cut.  

Jorge Fernandez Valdes of Argentina– Qualified

Jorge Fernandez Valdes fired off a steady and solid round of four-under (-4), 68, to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. The Argentina native carded four birdies and the rest all pars. Fernandez Valdes turned professional back in 2012 and has played in over 190 events between the PGA TOUR, the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, the PGA TOUR Canada, and the Korn Ferry Tour. Of the 193 events Jorge has played, 115 of which he has made the cut.

Carson Enright (a) of Longboat Key, Fla. - Qualified

After making the turn at even par, Carson Enright fired off a three-under par on the back nine to secure a spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship shooting 69 (-3). With six birdies and three bogeys, Enright would just qualify by one stroke over Shubham Jaglan (-2). Carson is a sophomore at the University of San Diego where he plays golf collegiately.

Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club

Thomas Longbella of Chippewa Falls, Wis. – Medalist

Thomas Longbella earned medalist honors and secured a spot at one the Final Qualifiers for the U.S. Open Championship after firing an amazing round of six-under (-6), 66. With a steady round he was able to secure the lead with a total of four birdies and an eagle. Longbella turned professional back in 2021 when he graduated as a student-athlete from the University of Minnesota with a scoring average of 74.87. The Wisconsin native has played in 11 events over the course of his professional career, most of his events being on the PGA TOUR Canada and one on the PGA Tour.   

Austen Truslow of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. – Qualified

Shooting a solid five-under (-5), the Florida native was able to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. With six birdies and one bogey, Truslow was able to come only one shot back from the leader. Truslow turned professional after he graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Since then, he has played in 28 events with the majority of them being on the Korn Ferry Tour.  

Brendon Valdes (a) of Orlando, Fla. – Qualified

With eight birdies on the card, Brendan Valdes would go on to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Valdes fired off a five-under (-5) with eight birdies and three bogeys. Valdes is a sophomore and plays collegiate golf for Auburn University averaging a 69.47 for this year (2022-2023). According to The World Amateur Golf Ranking, he is ranked in the top 100 and in the hopes of making his PGA Tour debut at this years U.S. Open.  

Andrew Hammett of Athens, Ga. – Qualified

Andrew Hammett made the turn at even par (E), and then fired off a five-under (-5) on the back nine to shoot a 67 (-5) to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Carding six birdies and one bogey, the Georgia native is eager to make his debut on the PGA Tour. 

Jacob Penny (a) of Valrico, Fla. - Qualified

Amateur, Jacob Penny, fired off a four-under (-4) par round to secure his position in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Carding three birdies, one bogey and an eagle on the second to last hole, Penny was able to jump into the final spot to qualify. The Florida native spent one year at Florida Southern playing collegiate golf averaging a 72.53 for the year (2017-2018).

Lexington Country Club

Connor Arendell of Fort Myers, Fla. – Medalist

Connor Arendell earned medalist honors and earned a spot in U.S. Open Final qualifying a spot at one the Final Qualifiers for the U.S. Open Championship after firing a round of 6-under 66. With a steady round, he was able to secure the lead with a total of five birdies and one eagle. Arendell turned professional back in May of 2011. The Forty Myers native captured a win at the 2021 Florida Open Championship, carding a final-round 63 to take home the victory.

Stephen Stallings Jr. of Louisville, Ken. – Qualified

Making the turn at 2 under with two birdies, the University of Kentucky alumni carded five more birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to post a 5-under 67 to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers. After graduating in 2017, Stallings turned professional and has played in 25 events. Of those 25 events, 11 of them were on the PGA TOUR and 7 of those events he made the cut.

Varun Chopra of Champaign, Ill. – Qualified

Tieing in third place with two other competitors, Varun Chopra was able to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship by shooting a cool 68 (-4). Chopra graduated from graduate school from Northwestern University where he played collegiate golf. His final season(2021-2022), he averaged 74.57 with a total of 7 events under his belt. Since then, he has played in one event on the Korn Ferry Tour.        

Will Cannon of Hoover, Ala. – Qualified

Tieing in third place with two other competitors, Will Cannon fired off a 68 (-4) with five birdies and one bogey. Bogeying his last hole, he was able to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. The UAB alumni played collegiate golf before turning professional in 2016. His final season at UAB, Cannon carded an average of 71.67. Since graduating, Cannon has played in over 60 events, 29 of which he made the cut.     

Alex Weiss of Pickerington, Ohio - Qualified

Tieing in third place with two other competitors, Alex Weiss carded a 68 (-4) with six birdies and one double bogey to secure his spot at one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Turning professional in 2018, he has played in over 45 events and made the cut for nearly 30 of them. Looking to make his debut on the PGA TOUR, Weiss is eager to join the elite and compete amongst the best in the world.

Kensington Country Club

Justin Ross of Delray Beach, Fla. – Co-Medalist

Shooting 4-under 67 with five birdies and only one bogey on the card, Justin Ross was able to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. As a redshirt freshman at the University of North Florida, Ross competed in a total of three events averaging a 73.3. The Florida native was also an active player on the Florida Junior Tour and won the 2019 Florida Boys' Junior Championship.

Ryan Linton of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Co-Medalist

Making the turn at 4 under with four birdies, the University of Southern California alumni carded two more birdies and one double bogey on the back nine to shoot a total score of 4- under 67 to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers. After graduating in 2009, Linton has played in 22 events between the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, and the PGA TOUR Canada .

Charlie Dubiel of Hobe Sound, Fla. – Co-Medalist

Finishing as co-medalist with four other competitors, Charlie Dubiel was able to punch his ticket to final qualifying by shooting a 4-under 67. Dubiel graduated from Cornell University in 2021 where he played collegiate golf. Having only played in one event on the PGA Tour, he is hoping to add another with the U.S. Open.       

Van Holmgren of Plymouth, Minn. – Co-Medalist

Van Holmgren fired off a 4-under 67 with six birdies and two bogeys. Bogeying his second to last hole, he was able to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. The FGCU alumni played collegiate golf and finished his final season in 2020-2021 averaging a 71.52. Since graduating, Holmgren has played in seven events on the PGA TOUR Canada, four of which he made the cut.

Evan Long of Naples, Fla. - Co-Medalist

Making the turn at 1 over, Evan Long carded a 4-under 67 with five birdies on the back to earn his spot at one of the Final Qualifiers. Turning professional in 2021, he has played in 10 events between the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica and the PGA TOUR Canada.

Marsh Creek Country Club

Thomas Bass of Wilmington, N.C. – Medalist

Thomas Bass earned medalist honors with a 5-under 67 on his way to punching his ticket to the U.S. Open Final Qualifier. The North Carolina native finished the back nine bogey free with two birdies and an eagle to take the top spot. The University of North Carolina-Wilmington alumni had been playing professionally since 2012.

Brandon Mancheno of Jacksonville, Fla. – Qualified

Making the turn at 1 over, Brandon Mancheno put together a strong back nine to earn a spot in Final Qualifying, finishing the final nine bogey free with four birdies. A two-time FSGA Junior Player of the Year, Mancheno turned professional after finishing his collegiate career at the University of North Florida.

Peter Skirostas of Medina, Ohio – Qualified

Peter Skirtostas secured a spot in Final Qualifying with a 1-under 71 at Marsh Creek. Skirtostas, an Ohio native, turned professional in 2012 and currently is the Golf Operations Manager at The Links at Stono Ferry in South Carolina.

Jamie Wilson of Mount Pleasant, S.C. – Qualified

Jamie Wilson took a share of third place at 1-under 71 to take one of the five qualifying sports, with a timely birdie on the 17th. A University of South Carolina graduate, Wilson was named a PING Honorable Mention All-American in his senior season and captured a win at Palmetto Amateur Championship in 2019. Wilson turned professional in 2021 and Monday qualified into the Korn Ferry's HomeTown Lenders Championship in April. 

Colin Monagle of Jacksonville, Fla. - Qualified

Making the turn at 3 under, Conlin Monagle carded an even-par 72 with three birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys to put him in a four-person playoff for one remaining spot. Monagle would then be the only one to birdie the first playoff hole to secure his spot at one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Turning professional back in 2015, the Jacksonville native played collegiately at Jacksonville University and graduated in 2015.

The Club at Eaglebrooke

Anthony Hajek of Windermere, Fla. – Medalist

Anthony Hajek earned medalist honors and secured a spot at one of the Final Qualifiers for the U.S. Open Championship after firing a five-under, 67. He made the turn at one under par before heating up on the back nine. Hajek birdied the first two holes on his second nine and continued to make two more birdies to post a four-under par back nine. The Florida native is looking to make his PGA Tour debut at this year's Championship. 

Colin Kresl of Lakeland, Fla. – Qualified

Shooting 68 (-4) with five birdies and only one bogey on the card, Kresl was able to secure his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Graduating from Saint Leo University in 2022, he played collegiate golf and had an average of 73.4 his final season. Since then, he has been building his professional resume playing in events as he is still fighting to make his debut on the PGA Tour.   

Logan Blondell (a) of Lakeland, Fla. - Qualified

Logan Blondell started out with a very steady front nine by making four pars in a row and then proceeded to make two birdies to make the turn at two-under on his first nine. Blondell made two more birdies on his back nine to finish with a four-under par, 68 total and earned a spot in one of the Final Qualifiers. Blondell played college golf at Georgia Southern University and graduated back in 2012.

Sam Hill of Orlando, Fla. - Qualified

Sam Hill fired off a two-under par on the front nine with two birdies. Hill coming in hot as he made the turn would then continue with three more birdies on the back nine. The Orlando native ended up bogeying his final hole to shoot four-under, 68 total and earned a spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 US.S Open Championship.

Cy Storlien of Tampa, Fla. – Qualified

Cy Storlien conquered the course by having a steady round of 35 (-1) on the front nine and a 34 (-2) on the back nine for a total of 69 (-3). Storlien had a total of four birdies and one bogey to secure his spot at one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. The Florida native is continuing his dream of making it on the PGA Tour by hoping to make this year's Championship his debut.

Indian River Club

Justin Kadin of Bandon, Ore. – Medalist

Justin Kadin fired a 7-under 65 and earned medalist honors on Wednesday at Indian River Club. Kadin outlasted the field by two strokes and secured a spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the U.S. Open Championship. Kadin made the turn at only 1 under par. However, he heated up on the back nine with four birdies and an eagle on his last hole to card a 6-under 30 on the back nine for a total of 7 under par. Kadin played college golf at the University of Idaho and then continued his golf career as a professional.

Tyler Collet of Vero Beach, Fla. – Qualified

Tyler Collet carded seven birdies to post a 5-under par 67 and secure a spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the U.S. Open Championship. The Vero Beach native is a PGA Professional and an Assistant Pro at John’s Island Club. He has already qualified and played in four PGA TOUR events and he is looking to make his fifth appearance on the Tour at the 2023 U.S. Open Championship.

Carter Page of Jupiter, Fla. – Qualified

Page posted a 4-under 68 to secure his spot in a Final Qualifier. He played a solid round with five birdies and one bogey. Page played college golf at NC State University and he turned professional upon graduation. He has played in one PGA TOUR event and is hoping to make his Major Championship debut at the 2023 U.S. Open.

Conner Godsey of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. – Qualified

Carding a 4-under 68, Conner Godsey secured his spot in one of the Final Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Posting five birdies and one bogey on the card was enough to advance to the final stage. The Alabama native turned professional in 2014 after playing college golf at Wallace State Community College and he has played in one PGA TOUR event. He is hoping to add to his resume by qualifying for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship.

John Houchin (a) of Merritt Island, Fla. – Qualified

Stetson University Junior, John Houchin earned his spot at a Final Qualifier after shooting a 3-under par 69 on Wednesday Indian River Club. The Merritt Island native was selected as the Stetson team MVP for the 2021-2022 season. He continued to have an outstanding summer in 2022, which included winning the Florida Amateur Match Play Championship, capturing a top-25 finish at the Florida Amateur, and capturing a top-10 at the Florida Amateur Public Links Championship. Houchin hopes to add to his resume and make the summer of 2023 memorable by securing a spot at the U.S. Open Championship.

Mark Bostick Golf Club

Clark Akers (a) if Nashville, Tenn. – Co-Medalist

There was a tie at the top with all qualifying spots earning co-medalist honors. Clark Akers, a freshman at Furman University, posted a 5-under 65 to earn a spot at a Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. He carded seven birdies and two bogeys resulting in a 65. Akers had a successful junior career playing on the AJGA and leading his high school team to the finals of the state championship. He hopes to gain more high level tournament experience by advancing to the 2023 U.S. Open Championship.

Toby Bishop (a) of Wales – Co-Medalist

University of Florida freshman, Toby Bishop posted a bogey-free round of 5-under par 65 to secure his spot in a Final Qualifier for the U.S. Open. He carded five birdies on his home golf course. The United Kingdom native has had a successful junior career playing mainly in Dubai. Career highlights include winning the 2021 Trump International Dubai Club Matchplay Championship as well as the 2021 United Arab Emirates Scratch Team Championship. He also set the course record with a 10-under par 62 at the 2020 Saadiyat Beach and Golf Club Men’s Championship. Bishop hopes to add playing in the 2023 U.S. Open Championship to his resume.

Fred Biondi (a) of Brazil – Co-Medalist

A senior at the University of Florida, Fred Biondi fired a 5-under par 65 to earn his spot in a Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship. Biondi has had a remarkable golf career and he holds a WAGR ranking of 16 to prove it. Amongst his list of accolades, Biondi has earned 2022 All-SEC First Team, 2022 PING All-Region Team and PING First Team All-American. He was also a member of the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup International Team. In addition, he won the 2021 Florida Amateur Championship, became the highest rated WAGR Brazilian golfer in history, and earned stroke play co-medalist honors at the 2022 U.S. Amateur. Biondi qualified and played in the 2022 U.S. Open but fell short of the cut. Biondi hopes to qualify yet again for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship and have another chance at making his first cut in a PGA TOUR Major Championship.

Parker Bell (a) of Tallahassee, Fla. – Co-Medalist

University of Florida freshman, Parker Bell earned a spot into a Final Qualifier for the U.S. Open Championship after posting a 5-under par 65. The Tallahassee native has already recorded a top-25 finish with a career low round of 69 at the 2023 Gators Invitational. Bell had a successful junior career with highlights including winning twice on the Florida Junior Tour, capturing two FHSAA State Championships, qualifying for the 2022 U.S. Amateur, and placing third at the 2022 Willow Cup.

Wilson Andress (a) of Macon, Ga. – Co-Medalist

Andress carded a bogey-free 5-under par 65 on Wednesday in Gainesville. The Georgia native is in his fifth year at Georgia Southern University. As a member of the men’s golf team, Andress collected many accomplishments including being named a two-time GCAA All-American Scholar and 2022 Third Team All-Sun Belt. Andress has now earned a spot in a Final Qualifier for the 2023 U.S. Open Championship and is hoping to play in his first Major Championship.
