Three Take Home Titles at Indian Spring

November 22, 2022

Ryan Prokay Lloyd Fisher  |  Joe Shaktman

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – The 2022-2023 Winter Series season kicked off this week at Indian Spring Country Club. Ryan Prokay, Lloyd Fisher and Joe Shaktman found their way to the top of their respective divisions when the final putts dropped.

Mid- Amateur

Windy conditions in round one made birdies hard to come by for the field. Starting on the first hole, Ryan Prokay found himself at 3 over par at the turn before steadying the ship and finishing the round with a 2-over par 74. This gave Prokay a 1 shot lead over a trio at 3 over par.

Prokay opened the final round with a clean scorecard on the front nine making three birdies along the way.  With birdies on holes 10 and 11, Brian Bassett played his way back into contention. What appeared to be a comfortable five-shot lead was now down to two shots with two holes to play. Prokay was able to hang on for the title, finishing the tournament at 1 over par after carding a final round 71.

Senior

The senior division saw the closest margin of victory at Indian Spring. After an opening birdie on his first hole of the day, Lloyd Fisher carded four more along the way to finish the first round at 2 under par. Closely behind Fisher was Rich Buckner after shooting an even-par 72.

Buckner was ready to challenge Fisher for the title in the final round, bolting to a one shot lead after the first nine holes. Fisher steadied the ship from there and played the final nine holes even par to win the tournament by one shot over Buckner.

Super-Senior

Monday’s strong winds were no challenge for Jim Stone. The Bradenton native fired a bogey free 69 to head into the final round with a one shot lead. With three other competitors also finishing the round under par, Stone would have to bring his best game in the final round.

Starting the final round two shots back, Joe Shaktman knew what was needed to win the event. With only one bogey in his 36 holes and three birdies in his last five holes, Shaktman sealed a three shot victory at the first Winter Series event of the season. Also with a final round 69, Cory Walker finished in solo second at 1 under par for the tournament.
