Hank Lebioda of Winter Springs, Ian McConnell of Riverview, Chase Seiffert of Panama City, and Joe Alfieri of Lutz all advanced to the Semifinal round of the 22nd Florida State Amateur Match Play Championship at Country Club of Orlando in Orlando on August 9-12.
Hank Lebioda, 2012 Boys Junior Champion, outlasted Bodi Karsono of Gainesville in 23 holes to advance to the round of 16 where he beat Andrew Gain, of Bradenton, 4 and 3. In the Quarterfinal, Lebioda overtook David Brown, of Eustis, 5 and 3. Ian McConnell played consistently throughout the Round of 32 and the Round of 16, winning both 3 and 2. In the Quarterfinal, McConnell defeated Christian Vozza, of Windermere, 4 and 3. Chase Seiffert, 2012 Florida Open and State Amateur Champion, won both the Round of 32 and Round of 16, 5 and 4. Seiffert then overtook Brandon Jowers, of Shalimar, 3 and 2 in the Quarterfinal. Joe Alfieri, 2001 Match Play Champion, outlasted Ben Vertz, of Coral Springs, in 19 holes to advance to the Round of 16 where he beat Airik Medinis, of Fort Myers, 5 and 4. Alfieri then defeated Michael Kartrude, of Royal Palm Beach, 2 and 1.
In the Semifinal Round, Lebioda and McConnell will go head-to-head at 8:00 a.m. with the winner advancing to the finals, while Seiffert will face off against Alfieri in the paring behind them at 8:15 a.m.. The Final Round begins at 12:00 p.m. at Country Club of Orlando.
