After two rounds of golf, played at Willoughby Golf Club and Sailfish Point Golf Club, the cut was made at 12 over-par (156) heading into the final round on Sunday. A total of 66 players will play Willoughby Golf Club where the Champion will be crowned.
Lee Rinker, of Jupiter, went wire-to-wire to remain in the lead after the second round. Rinker posted a first round 69 (-3) at Sailfish Point Golf Club with four birdies on his first nine holes. After a second round of 71 (-1) at Willoughby Golf Club, Rinker held on to the lead by two strokes with a 140 two round total. Gene Fieger, of Naples, would head into the final round in second place after rounds of 70 – 72—142 (-2). David Good, of Lakeland, Mark Mielke, of Jupiter, Michael Weeks, of Jupiter, and Eduardo Herrera, of Windermere, finished tied for third place at one under-par, 143. Michael Weeks is the only amateur to finish in the top 10. Herrera will enter the final round playing for his second consecutive Florida Senior Open victory as he was crowned Champion in 2015. 2014 FSGA Amateur Player of the Year, Don Bell, sits tied for seventh with Jerry Tucker at 146 (+2). Sunday’s final round will be exciting as Lee Rinker fights to win his second FSGA Championship since winning the 1982 Amateur Championship!
