Winter Series - Conservatory at Hammock Beach

The Conservatory at Hammock Beach - Palm Coast

January 13-14, 2025

PALM COAST, Fla. – Players traveled in from across the state to compete for the sixth Winter Series event of the season in cold and windy conditions.  Thad Hudgens (Mid-Amateur), Charles Kirk (Senior), and Al LeFevre (Super-Senior) battled the conditions better than the rest on their way to capturing titles in their respective divisions.

Mid-Amateur Division

Thad Hudgens took home the Mid-Amateur division with rounds of 69-74-143.  His opening 69 included five birdies and left him three back of the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round.  Hudgens hung around all day in the final round, playing even par golf for most of the day eventually taking the lead on the 16th hole.  Matching the others on the way in over the final two holes, Hudgens was able to hold on for his first win of the Winter Series season.

Senior Division

Charles Kirk took home a win in the Senior division with rounds of 74-72 --146.  After opening with 74, Kirk found himself three back of Round 1 leader Billy Lodise.  After a solid start of 1-under through the first four holes of his Tuesday round, Kirk found himself back tied for the lead quickly.  Steady play through the middle portion of the round helped Kirk extend his lead as he saw it grow as much as three heading into the final stretch of holes.  A birdie in the closing stretch and some mistakes from the others left Kirk with a six-shot victory.  Kirk’s win earns him an exemption into the upcoming 64th Senior Amateur Championship at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club.

Super-Senior Division

Al LeFevre added his first win of the Winter Series season, firing rounds of 71-73 --144.  An opening 71 in Round 1 would give LeFevre a share of the lead alongside of Robert Layman.  After three bogeys on his opening nine, LeFevre caught fire on his second nine, carding 3 birdies and only one bogey en route to a dominant 5 shot victory.  This win jumps LeFevre up to third place on the Winter Series season-long points list.
