Senior Four-Ball Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Don Whittemore and Pete Williams captured the victory at the Senior Four-Ball Championship on Wednesday at Innisbrook Resort, finishing the week at 10-under 132. This is the third Senior Four-Ball win for Whittemore and Williams and their third in six years.

Whittemore and Williams began the championship with a first-round 64, the low round of the championship, to take a two-shot lead over the field on Tuesday. They posted seven birdies in the first round with Williams carding three-straight on Nos. 4-6.

Whittemore and Williams kept it rolling in the final round, with Whittemore birdieing the first. They added another birdie on the front side to make the turn at even-par for the day. Whittemore and Williams finished the day with three birdies on the back nine to post a 3-under 68 in the final round.

The duo took home the wire-to-wire win with a 10-under 132 for the championship.

David Anthony and Bob Macmillan took home a runner-up finish with an 8-under 134, finishing the championship with two rounds of 67. Steve Horner and Michael Arasin finished third at 7-under 135, firing a final-round 65.

Eligibility FSGA Adult member; at least 55 years of age

Handicap:  Florida GHIN 15.0 or less

Entry Fee:  $340 per team ($170 per player)

Championship Format

  • 36 holes of gross four-ball stroke play (no handicaps; commonly known as better-ball)
  • Maximum Field Size - 52 teams (104 players)
  • The lowest team score for 36 holes will be the Champion
    • if necessary, the field will be flighted into two or three flights for gift certificates based on Round 1 scores

What is a Four-Ball? A four-ball is a two person team where the low score of the two players on each hole is counted. It is commonly referred to as best ball.

Eligibility 

  • Male amateur golfers
  • At least 55 years of age as of the first day of the Championship
  • Both entrants are required to be members of the FSGA

Entry Fee

  • $340 per team ($170 per player)
  • Entry Fee includes all cart and course fees, tee gift and a $20 per player gift card good for food & beverage anywhere on the Innisbrook property
  • Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.

Schedule of Events

Tuesday, September 20th

  • 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM - Round One tee times off of #1 and #10

Wednesday, September 21st

  • 8:30 AM - Final round Shotgun

Entry Priority

Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt. Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list. Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available. A spot will be held for the previous years Champion.

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately 6,400 - 6,600 yds.

Flighting

After 18 holes, the number of flights will be based on the number of teams and the range of scores.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship.  Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM on the weekend.  The price for a practice round is $40.00 + tax per player.  Please call 727-942-2000 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Defending Champions

Jacque Legere & Michael Cox became two-time Champions of the Senior Four-Ball in 2021. Legere and Cox  defeated fellow two-time Champions Pete Williams & Don Whittemore in a play-off after the two teams were tied through 36 holes at 12-under-par. Legere and Cox hosted their second Senior Four-Ball trophy at Pelican Marsh Golf Club in Naples.
