Super-Senior Four-Ball Championship

TRINITY, Fla. – Two teams came out on top at the Super-Senior Four-Ball Championship on Tuesday at Fox Hollow Golf Club. James Starnes and Steve Humphrey came out on top in the Championship Division, while Pete McDade and Bob Casamento were victorious in the 70 & Over Division.

Championship Division

Starnes and Humphrey fired a final-round 66 to earn the two-shot win in the Championship Division at 6-under 136. They sat one shot back of the leaders after a 2-under 70 in Monday’s first round.

The duo got the final round started with a birdie on the 18th, their second hole of the day. Humphrey went on a run, with three-straight birdies on Nos. 4-6. They played their final nine holes at 1 under to card a division-low 66 to secure the victory.

Steve Sponder and Joe Shaktman used rounds of 70-68 to take second place at 4-under 138, while three teams took a share of third place at 2-under 140.

70 & Over Division

McDade and Casamento took home the win in the 70 & Over Division for the second-straight year, securing the four-shot victory with a 6-under 136 for the championship. The team began the championship with a first-round 71 to sit four shots back of the leaders/

They got off to a strong start in the final round with McDade beginning the day with back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th. Casamento added a pair of birdies for himself on the 16th and 17th, finishing the front side at 4 under. They added three more birdies on their second nine to secure the victory with a final-round 65, the low round in the championship.

Four teams finished the championship in a tie for second at 2-under 140.

Handicap:  Florida GHIN 15.0 or less

Championship Format

  • 36 holes of gross four-ball stroke play (commonly known as two-person best-ball)
  • Maximum Field Size - 48 teams (96 players)
  • The lowest team score for 36 holes will be the Champion
    • if necessary, the field will be flighted into two or three flights for gift certificates based on Round 1 scores

What is a Four-Ball? A four-ball is a two person team where the low score of the two players on each hole is counted. It is commonly referred to as best ball.

Eligibility 

  • Male amateur golfers at least 65 years of age as of the first day of the Championship
    • 70 & Over Age Divsion Only - both competitors must be 70 years of age as of the first day of the Championship
  • Both entrants are required to be members of the FSGA
  • Active Florida GHIN of 15.0 or less at time of entry

Entry Fee

  • $340 per team ($170 per player)

Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.

Schedule of Events

Monday, October 3

  • 8:00 AM - 9:40 AM - Round one tee times off of #1 and #10

Tuesday, October 4

  • 8:30 AM - Shotgun
  • Awards ceremony and complimentary players luncheon immediately following the completion of play

Entry Priority

Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt. Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list. Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available.

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately 6,200 - 6,400 yards (Championship Division) and 5,800 - 6,000 yards (70 & Over Division)

Flighting

After 18 holes, the number of flights will be based on the number of teams and the range of scores.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the event and after 12:00 PM the weekend prior on a space available basis. The cost of the practice round is $35 + tax and includes cart, golf, and range balls. Please call 727-376-6333 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range. Hitting multiple balls on the golf course is unacceptable.

Defending Champions

The team of David Anthony & Randy Elliott were crowned Super-Senior Four-Ball Champions in 2021 at The Country Club of Winter Haven. The duo posted rounds of 68-62--130 (-14) to win by five strokes.
