Goslin and Elwin Finish on Top at Vero Beach CC

September 22, 2024

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Junior Tour made its way to Vero Beach Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida. In a display of consistency and determination, Grant Goslin and Krishny Elwin emerged victorious, each achieving wire-to-wire wins.

(Boys 13-18)

The soft conditions at Vero Beach Country Club allowed for players to take advantage and post some great scores. Leading the charge was Grant Goslin. Teeing off on the back nine, Goslin would open with a bogey. However, he would bounce back with a birdie on eleven and then caught fire, carding six birdies and only one more bogey for a 4-under 32 on his first nine holes. The 2025 graduate from Tampa would roll in eight total birdies, and finish round one at 5-under par. Marco Sanchez, of Weston, FL, had a great day of putting. Pair that with solid ball striking and he would card 4 birdies and one bogey for an opening round 69. Yuma Nemoto and Ryan Woodward both fired rounds of 2-under par 70 to sit in a tie for third. They looked to take momentum into Sunday and make a charge in round two.

In a commanding wire-to-wire performance, Grant Goslin concluded his second round with a 69, totaling 136 and finishing at 8-under par. The Tampa native recorded two birdies on the front nine and two on the back, and despite a bogey on the 18th hole, he maintained a two-stroke lead over the competition. Ethan Weinberg finished in second place, posting the day’s lowest round after starting strong with an eagle on the second hole followed by eight birdies. However, his first-round score of 75 prevented him from overtaking Goslin.

(Girls 13-18)

We saw more great play in our girls division with multiple players fighting for the top spot. Krishny Elwin played steady and consistent golf all day. She would open with two birdies on the front nine for a 2-under par 34. She would drop a shot on the tough twelfth hole, but that was her only blemish on her scorecard. Her terrific round of 1-under 71 was the only under-par round of the day in the girls’ division. Like Elwin, Angelina Pacheco started her round off with very consistent and steady play. She would birdie her opening hole and then card eight straight pars for an opening nine-hole score of 35. She would falter on the par-4 tenth hole with a double bogey. However, she would shake it off and follow it up with a birdie on eleven. She would add one more birdie and one more bogey to finish at even par, one shot off the lead. Sitting in a tie for third place were Stella Moritz and Sophia Dyer. Both sat three off the lead at 2-over par.

In a similar fashion to the boys’ division, Krishny Elwin secured a wire-to-wire victory, finishing with rounds of 71-71 for a total of 142. Elwin also held a two-stroke lead over the field, showcasing a varied scorecard in the final round with one eagle, three birdies, and four bogeys. Angela Chu Po Nip climbed three spots on the leaderboard after posting the day’s lowest round of 69. She started strong with a birdie on the first hole and added three more throughout the round, ultimately tying for second. Stella Moritz also finished in second place, concluding her rounds with 74-70 to end even par. Meanwhile, yesterday’s solo second-place finisher, Angelina Pacheco, battled through adversity to record five bogeys, finishing in fourth place.
