From Junior Florida Cup to Ryder & Solheim Cup

September 14, 2021

TAMPA, Fla. – Three Florida Junior Tour alums are representing the United States this fall at the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup. Daniel Berger and Brooks Koepka will compete in the 43rd Ryder Cup later this month, while Lexi Thompson was a member of the U.S. team at the 17th Solheim Cup.

Berger and Koepka will look to help the United States reclaim the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, beginning on September 24, in Wisconsin. Thompson and Team USA fell just short of Team Europe, 15-13, in Solheim Cup at earlier this month at Inverness Club in Ohio.

All three FJT alums competed in the FSGA’s Junior Florida Cup, a Ryder Cup-style event that pits the best junior golfers in Florida against each other.

Berger will compete in his first Ryder Cup, as he was one of six captain’s picks by Steve Stricker. He will be one of six rookies on the U.S. team in Wisconsin. The Jupiter native has put together another standout season in 2021, securing eight top-10 finishes and adding his fourth PGA Tour win at the AT& T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February. He also finished the year 11th on the FedEx Cup standings.

While this will be his first Ryder Cup appearance, Berger was a member of the victorious 2017 President’s Cup team, finishing the week with a 2-1-0 record.

Koepka will make his third Ryder Cup appearance at the end of the month, compiling a 4-3-1 overall record. The four-time major winner helped lead the United States to a victory in 2016, going 3-1-0 to give Team USA its first victory since 2008.

The West Palm Beach native added his eighth PGA Tour victory in February at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, while also adding two runner-up finishes and right 10-10 finishes in 2021.

Thompson competed in her fifth Solheim Cup at just 26 years old at the beginning of the month. The Coral Springs native earned a point for the U.S. with Brittany Altomare in the Saturday foursome matches, while halving her match with Anna Nordqvist in the singles. Team USA fell just short of reclaiming the Cup.

Thompson finished third the U.S. Women’s Open Championship in June, while adding four other top-10 LPGA finished in 2021.
